Calendar

I can't find a way to set the calendar (i.e. use a non-Gregorian calendar, with different months & days) for a campaign. Is it implemented in the EA yet ?

Here's the pertinent info that I originally posted on the Comments page of the Kickstarter a day or two ago:

The custom calendar feature is NOT available in the EA release, and it might not even make it into the V1.0 release. The reason for the latter is that the UI for calendar editing is really crude right now, and I'm reluctant to release something that's clunky and difficult to use. So this decision still looms prior to V1.0.

I have spent the last 20 minutes trying to add a new calendar anyway I could without luck, before coming to the forums.

Well, I guess, I will just have to go back and add things to this later then. I will just you the Common Era dates then.

Thanks for the info rob.

With regard to the calendar, there are a couple of things I'd like it to be able to do and that is handle Ages or Epochs.

For example:

First Age - Year 1 - 10000

Second Age - Year 1 - 25000

Third Age - Year 1 - 6000

Fourth Age, Fifth Age, Sixth Age, etc.

Also speaking about the calendar. Are there plans in the final release of the Calendar to allow something like regular expressions so we can connect patterns to our new calendar date format? Or at least something for the current calendar. It's incredibly annoying having to put dates in right now since it requires constant clicking to get to the right century then decade then year then month then day. I'd much rather type in 1/1/1342 and have all of that information get parsed out. I'm currently working on an alternate history campaign that'll span centuries so it's going to get incredibly tedious soon trying to get all of my dates in order.

Let me just express how crucial I think it is to have custom calendars in place at launch. Nearly everything in a game world is in some way tied to dates. If we force players to go back and edit the entire database at a later time, that is only bad IMHO.

@asandir: Epochs and ages are part of the current design of calendars. So you should be covered. :)

@bliblob: Entering a date as text is easy for a simple date in our world (Gregorian calendar). It gets vastly more complicated when you need to do it for a calendar in which the date structure has no numeric correlation. Now imagine dozens of calendars for which there is no numeric equivalent for dates. We need a solution that works across all these different calendars.

For the moment, we don't have a good solution for that, so the current mechanism is in place. Once we figure out something, we'll definitely get it added.
