New interface with Journal Tab?

I am not understanding why the Journal Tab now requires to input twice now for the same thing.

I read your reasoning behind it, but it still makes no sense. I fully admit I may be missing something, but at this moment I am not seeing it.

this is what Mathias said.

I am sorry that the two journals was the best compromise we could come up with for the prestige awards - since a non-PFS character can have an unlimited number of factions, and a single event could cause changes to the prestige awards for any or all of those factions, the prestige award journals are separate, so that users can apply different awards to different factions.

Currently right now for my PFS character I have to input the same event twice because of the separation, which makes no sense to me.

I understand that characters of non PFS can have multiple factions on the same character, but that still does not explain the separation since multiple factions still require putting the same event in more then once.

Why not just add the Faction choice on the adventures journal section so they even if they do have multiple factions they still need to input twice but those with one Faction and PFS character only have to input once?

This seems a lot more easier to me and makes a lot more sense. Am I missing something or did Lone Wolf just miss that simplicity?

The events that grant you prestige are often going to be separate from the events that grant you XP or cash, especially when you're recording an event for spending cash or prestige.

For a multi-faction character, we decided that separating the faction information from the XP/cash records would be the best way to go. Events could cause prestige changes for any or all of your factions, so if you have to input something for 2 or 3 factions, does the XP/cash entry spaces need to be repeated there, too?

Also, look at the height of a journal entry - adding the space for faction selection and prestige changes increases the amount of screen area that's needed for a journal entry, so, if you're adding a 3-line journal entry for each of your factions, that's a lot of wasted space. There's also a bit of empty space on the bottom left of a journal entry if you add faction and prestige selections to the bottom right. Or, you stretch that across the whole journal entry to save some vertical room, but that breaks up the organization of the entry - who/what/when/where/why/how on the left, results on the right.

In terms of why screen area is important, try letting your Hero Lab window float free, then shrink it until it won't go smaller - at that point, a normal character sees 3 journal entries, and a character with factions sees one of each - and that height may be all that someone running HL on a netbook sees. For 3-line journal entries at that height, you're only going to get 2 journal entries into that space.

Yes, if your character only has one faction, the total screen area needed for one combined journal entry is less than the total screen area for an XP/cash journal + a prestige journal, but we can't guarantee that a single-faction character will stay single faction. Characters in a normal game could easily join up with more groups, and a PFS character might be taken into a home game, and join other factions that way. It's also not good to get PFS players used to one journal style - a 3-line combined entry, and then have them re-learn a 2 table, 2-line layout used for regular games (or vice-versa), so switching journal designs depending on character type wouldn't have worked.

Ok, if a faction reward does not grant XP or cash those can just be ignored, and you are telling me you save more space by separating the 2 then just adding the one part into one, seems like to me you are wasting more space by doing that, since some of the info is just being added in again! I am not seeing it, but I am not a programmer.
