Greetings!

I'm making some stuff up for my world and wanting to distribute it to them. How do I tell what if what I'm using will require a packaged item? If something does require it, am I able to make a copy of it within the editor so they can have it in their Hero Labs?

My google-fu is failing me and I'm tired.

Thanks!

They would have to own the packages to use anything of yours that requires something in a sold package.

If it is something in the Community data sets, they can install those themselves, of course.

Your other option is to create not copies but new things in the editor, and make all of your new items refer to those instead of the published ones. Then you could distribute those with your other new items.

You may already know this, but I say "not copies but new things" because when you make a copy of something in the Editor, if it is from a paid package, you can't just save the copy. Also, since even a copy would have a new ID, you would need to alter your new items to use the new cloned records you created, otherwise they would still refer to the originals by the originals ID, and you would have gained nothing by making the new things.

The "Choose Supplement Packages" option in the Develop menu will let you temporarily set up your own copy of Hero Lab as if it did not have certain supplement packages. That way, in order to test whether your created material requires a specific package, you can turn off that package, re-compile your files, and then see if there are any errors.
