Again, sorry if this has been discussed before, but I'm on digest
mode...

I think you are mistaken. "Shashakar" isn't considered the same as "Naga
Shugenja" for uniqueness. If anything, he is the experienced (and
therefore Unique) version of the non-unique "Naga Shugenja". There is no
uniqueness conflict between them whatsoever!

I see where your mistake comes from. What happens this is one of the
first (if not the very first) case where an Experienced personality
changed the name of the original version, so AEG must have suffered of
over-explaining and bad templating. This text has zero bearing on game
terms as unique cards only conflict with another unique cards on
uniqueness matters, and 'Naga Shugenja' isn't unique. Rest assured you
can ignore this safely.
