Equipment slot questions from a noob

Hello all! Please pardon my inexperience- I have absolutely no coding background and everything I've done in Hero Lab Editor has been self-taught painstakingly. So far I have succeeded in making custom dieties, feats, and items (and making some existing items slotless). Small potatoes stuff.

My goal: ideally making a few existing items their own "equipment slot." So far I've succeeded in making them slotless.

I've studied a few threads before coming here, both suggest making scripts that fake a slot rather than just making a new one (http://forums.wolflair.com/showthread.php?t=51624 and http://forums.wolflair.com/showthread.php?t=11940), but not only am I having trouble understanding why the scripts are not working for me, I don't understand the need to fake it in the first place. Ideally, wouldn't it be easier to find wherever [ex: "isEqpHeadBand"] is and add an extra tag or three?

Please let me know what I'm doing wrong, or where I can learn how to do it better. I am even open to direct messaging or a chat program. Thank you!
