I have a lot of NPC's that I use in multiple campaigns. Is there a way to have the world view contain all of the common items, but in story view add some things that only pertain to that campaign that do not transfer back to word view?

No, story view is just a subset of entire realm that you pick.

All views, Story almanac is just the built in one, are simply user configured subsets of the topics, or articles, of the entire realm.

What happens to topics that are created in the Story Almanac?

Topics and articles are automatically added to the view they are created in, including the Story Almanac.

I recently got back into Realm Works and I was curious about this exact topic. I found this video which went through how the Story Almanac works really well. You can also create new views for other adventures, and Josh explains how to work with those.
