It will only allow me to start up the program by way of keeping "start hero lab" checked whenever I reinstall the program. This is currently the only way I can get by this error message. Even a full uninstall and reinstall of the program doesn't seem to be working.
So I guess the short answer is, yep, it does persist. |

Sorry, you answered whether it persists across reinstalls of the program, but I'm not sure if you mean that it does or doesn't persist across a reboot. If it doesn't, we've added additional logging mechanisms that should let us track down and fix the issue. Hi there,
Does installing the latest version of Hero Lab solve the problem? If not, please run Hero Lab with the parameter -logbitmaps (you can do this by right-clicking on the Hero Lab shortcut and appending " -logbitmaps" to the Target field). When you run HL, it will create a file in your temp directory (probably c:\temp) called lwd_bitmap_log.txt. Please send me this file at colen@wolflair.com, so I can attempt to diagose the problem further. this gets odder and odder...
well, I created a shortcut on my desktop so I could try and run it with the listed parameter appended to the field. After trying to get that to work, I just doubleclicked on the shortcut and it opened just fine. The funny/odd thing is that when I try opening it from the programs menu it still gives the error message. The shortcut is pointing to the exe in the menu, and honestly I have no idea why it's working for one, but not the other. I'm happy now because the shortcut works, but thought I'd let you know what was up. |

Well, at least it's working now. If you start getting the crash when launching from the shortcut, please let us know and send us the log file. Hi there - this is for anyone else who gets the "bitmap" error like I did.
I think I installed and uninstalled the Hero Lab program three times before finally getting the bright idea to check the Settings. Go to Settings/ Basic settings and Disable Resolution Check at Startup. (Ignore the warning message.) Once I did that, Hero Lab loaded without a problem. Hope this helps save some frustration for the next person with this problem. |
