Lets be short:
I have a unit and want to be able to give it (unlimited or at least many)multiple child units of the same type.
How can I achieve this without the option box being overloaded with multiple times the same option link?

I first tried the option to be choosable multiple times, but this didn't work :?
I still only got one child unit.

Please help

I'd recommend downloading the Warmachine game, then go into any of the .dat files and study the options called "++Add Warjack". The behavior they have sounds like what you're after.

EDIT: checked it. It turned out I needed to set childtype to newlink.

I'm having a similar issue as this one.
In Warhammer Fantasy, I want to combine different units to form a group, such as attaching a Templar Grand Master to a unit of Knights. Or attaching an Engineer to a particular War Machine
Will this fix work in that system as well? Or is there another method to use?
Ver.2 allowed for these kinds of mergers. I have looked thru the forum and searched for this info, but I could not find an answer, no doubt my search was done wrong, or I didn't read enough of the posts.

This capability is built into AB3. It's referred to as the "squads" mechanism, which is enabled by default for the WFB data files. You can simply drag-and-drop units together into a squad. There are details on how this works within the User Manual. If you still have questions after reviewing the manual, let me know and I'll do my best to answer them.
