When creating new gear category under equipment, why does the new category not show and the newely created gear appear at the top of the list?

So, how to you create a proper category so all the gear I create appears under the new category.

I don't think so, new categories are pretty much out for everything except archetypes, deities and kind of sort of traits (you can rename custom). IDK if anything has changed.

For most categories in Hero Lab, there's an explicit sort order defined for each tag. That sort order is not accessible from the editor, so its value defaults to 0 for newly created tags. Therefore, the new groups sort at the top of their list, because their sort order value is lower than anything else. Archetypes have an alphabetical sort, which is why they don't show the same behavior.
