I have a friend who is making custom races and would like to hide the default Human. Every time he tries to do this it screws up all the other races. Any help would be great.

Do a Preclude on it... This works best if you have a specific Source you are setting up, so you can preclude the normal human race from that specific source (Hellfrost, Sundered Skies, Slipstream, etc..)

this doesn't actually completely work. I've precluded it in my Sundered Skies file, but when you select a race, it still defaults to the default Human. Once you select another race, the default human goes away.

I have tried the preclude and I enter the unique ID of 'racHuman', but I am unsure what the source id is. When I do this without, all of my user created races disappear until I can re-compile. Any thoughts.

King, the Source ID is the ID of your User Content.
So say I am creating content for Sundered Skies. At the very bottom of the center panel for the Editor, for anything you create, there is the Source field. When I started entering content for sundered skies, I added in a Source with a Source ID of SundSkies. Whatever you put in for your source ID for your source is what you put in the Source ID for the preclude. If you don't have it in there, it comes back with a syntax error, and blocks all user content from showing up until you correct it, which is why all your races are disappearing. If you need more help, let us know. |

This is because Hero Lab defaults to racHuman for a new portfolio file. |

Correct. I think what we're asking, is "is it possible to add in some kind of check box to define the default species in a specific setting?"
It's not a must, but it would be a nice, like to have. |

Thank you for the Help, I still have a problem though. I did as you said and added the correct source ID, this worked without errors, however when I save, test, get out and back-in Humans are still there not just as the default but as a choice. Any thoughts.
I have 'racHuman' in the Thing Unique ID and the correct Source ID Thanks again. |

Heya King, racHuman is hardcoded into the HeroLab software as the default race. So even if you do away with it, it still comes up as the default. Now if you select another race, the default Human should go away.
If you look at my comment immediately above yours, I was asking if there could be a feature added to get around this. |

Don't preclude Humans do the following instead. Create one of your new Races and in the field replaces thing enter racHuman. Humans will still show up as a default, however when you choose a race only the races you entered will be selectable. One problem with this use though is if another datafile replaces humans you will get an error about duplicate things like the old preclude error. Alvin Leadbetter www.rpden.net |
