If you look at my comment immediately above yours, I was asking if there could be a feature added to get around this.

It would be nice if they added a switch to races template to make your race the default one.

"Create one of your new Races and in the field replaces thing enter racHuman.
Humans will still show up as a default, however when you choose a race only the races you entered will be selectable.
One problem with this use though is if another datafile replaces humans you will get an error about duplicate things like the old preclude error

The probem with this is that "Replaces" isn't setting-specific, and it will replace it all of the time not just for one setting. Also, since this is not what Replace was designed for (it has very specific uses) there are other repercussions.
