Well, I think I now have the L5R files pretty much working with all of the
Reign of Blood stuff, plus 4 cards added to Training Grounds. I've
incorporated fixes to all the errors reported in the V5.4 data files,
except for a couple where I've requested further information from the
reporter.

Here are my questions before officially releasing anything....

1. The 4 Training Grounds cards need to be classified as belonging to a
release. Should they be their own release (seems a little bit silly for 4
cards)? Or should they be lumped in with something else? If the latter,
which set (DE or RoB)?

2. Who wants to be a guinea pig and take these files for a test drive
before I release them to everyone? Volunteers should let me know at
l5r@wolflair.com. NOTE! I may have broken something (shouldn't be the case,
but possible). Volunteers need to make a backup of their inventory before
testing these files, just to be safe.

3. Who has identified problems in the data files and not yet reported them?
If that's you, please get them to me at l5r@wolflair.com ASAP. If I receive
them quickly, I'll get them fixed in the next update of the data files.

Please send answers to each of these OFF-LIST to me at l5r@wolflair.com.
Since these are L5R-specific things, I don't want to soak up bandwidth for
everyone unnecessarily. After receiving everyone's input, if I decide
something needs to be discussed, then I'll post it here for general comment
and input. :-)

Thanks, Rob

Erm, sorry, but why shouldn't the *other* cards from Training Grounds
be put in CV as well? That's what happened to every other
learn-to-play set (you can check the database: Siege of Sleeping
Mountain, Battle of Beiden Pass, Storms Over Matsu Palace, and I'm
not sure about L5R Experience). I think the general approach to the
files is that every single card printed in an AEG release goes into
the database (note the number of "reprint" rarity on all sets)

Also, did you see my report about the entire "preview" expansion not
showing up in CV?

Thanks for the great work

Abilio

Remember all those times I proclaimed that I'm *NOT* an L5R person?

The reason I asked is quite simply that we received data from AEG for
exactly FOUR cards for Training Grounds. In my ignorance, I never thought
about the additional cards.

That being said, I have *NO* idea what the other cards are, nor do I even
know where to find a complete list. If someone wants to provide me with the
appropriate information, I'll do my best to get it included. :-)

As for the "preview" expansion, I have no idea what it is/was. I believe
it's a hold-over from the data files I inherited from Kuni Tetsu, but I
don't know it's purpose at all. Perhaps Bob can chime in here with some
pointers that will shed some light on what to do with it....

Thanks, Rob

ouch. smack AEG upside the head for me, will ya?

here's a checklist for Training Grounds. Zen also has, in this page,
checklists for EVERY OTHER CARD, including promos. It's a great
resource for you, since you don't know anything about L5R. BTW, why
not? Start playing it already, it's a great game.

The "preview" expansion (more-correctly Pre-Imperial) is a group of
cards released at (afaik) Gencon, before the game was commercially
available. It's a vital part of any L5R collection.

I know a BIT about L5R. I've played it a few times and enjoyed it. The
problem is that I have almost zero time for games nowadays. Something about
having a business and lots of folks clamoring for new features and updated
data files faster than we can deliver them. :-)

Thanks for the clarification. Someone has volunteered to put this together,
so we'll hopefully have in the data files in the near data files.

Thanks, Rob

Since all that seems to exist is a checklist for Training Grounds, and all
of the cards are reprints (except for the 4 new ones), I'm going to include
TG as simply a "checklist". IOW, the TG cards will NOT have all of the
usual tags attached, nor any description/flavor text. All of that info will
still be fully searchable through all of the other instances of those cards
- just not for the TG cards. And the checklist entries will be perfect for
users who want to track the TG cards in inventory.

To avoid potential merging order problems, I'm going to set the TG release
to be of LOWER MRP status than DE. That way, the DE and RoB cards will
always be used when merging of duplicates is enabled. This will ensure that
the user will always see cards with complete info on them, instead of the
abbreviated versions from TG.

Can anyone think of any fundamental flaws in this approach that I haven't
thought of? The only one I can think of is that an MRP change printed in TG
won't be recognized properly for DE/RoB cards. However, I doubt this is
even a concern, since the wording on TG cards probably shouldn't be treated
as MRP anyways, as it's likely to be simplified in some cases for
introductory play. Thoughts anyone????

Thanks, Rob

I may be wrong, but I think ALL learn-to-play sets do not count
towards MRP. In this case, I think it would even make sense to put
them all lower than anything else, so that even Imperial supercedes
them. Tetsu-sama?

Rob,

If it would help you, cv-l5r is still available to use as a forum if you want.
You may not since email to wolflair is more direct to you, but in case it is of
any help, feel free.

Well, someone beat me to it, so I guess I don't have to The set was released
at GenCon ahead of the actual game. Some of the cards changed by the time the
actual set was released.

Well, there is a fundamental flaw: TG includes also card from the three
sets earlier to DE so you'll end merging with blank cards for those. If
you want to go this way, you should put TG just before KYD for MRP
purposes (where, in reality, it should go between DE and RoB). Also,
unlike previous learn-to-play sets, TG has no dumbed-down versions of
the cards so, at least that, is not a problem.

I was thinking of making (and send to you later) an excel file with the
following format:

Card # Title Template Flavor Text
------ ------------ -------- ------------
LN0 Kenson Gakka DE
LN1 Temples of the New Tao DE
LN2 Shrine to Fukurokujin H&E
LN3 Copper Mine DE
LN4 Matsu Aoiko DE "We are warriors, Ferishi. We should not...

etc.

This way, you'd now you only need to "cut-and-paste" the exact data of
the template edition of the cards and you'd only need to change the card
# and the Flavor Text. Of course, I'd compare and point our if there is
any difference with the Template. Sounds good?

BTW, I'll try to get a new set of Clan Rivals cards for you this
weekend. They are the Scorpion/Unicorn set.
