I am looking at creating my first custom item using the editor, an amulet that combines the powers of a belt of giant strength and a headband of vast intelligence. Is there any way to output copies of both of these original items, so I can insure I've ticked all the right fields and tags, rather than flicking back and forward to multiple versions of HL to see each item?

No there isn't (otherwise it would be too easy to copy items :-) ).

I would recommend reading the Glossary of Terms for the Editor. Then check out FAQ#2 for all the places to learn about the editor including YouTube videos. Welcome to the wonderful world of using the HL editor which will be the most frustrating and rewarding thing you can do with Hero Lab. In the Video series I did I show how to convert the logic of a Ring of Protection into a Cloak of Protection. This is almost exactly what your trying to do here. I recommend watching those as it shows how to view existing items and how to copy the script/tags. Thanks Tim, for your reply and your videos. Completed and equipped my magic item last night, and it works a treat, just in time for our game this week.
