Hi everyone,

We've been working on bug fixes and improvements to Army Builder, primarily including fixes to better support users with non-English alphabets (such as Russian and Greek). Before we release this new version to the public, we'd like to do some wider testing than normal - if you're interested in lending a hand, please take the new update for a test drive and let us know of any problems you run into!

You can download the beta here:

http://www.wolflair.com/download/ab/...in_install.exe

Note: To save PDFs with this beta, you'll need to download our updated PDF plug-in, which you can get here:

http://www.wolflair.com/download/fre...in_install.exe

Here's a list of the improvements and bug fixes in this beta:
  • Users with non-English characters in their usernames (such as the many fine users named Дми́трий who reported this error) can now use Army Builder without having to manually set the directories it uses.
Please note: Files saved in this version of Army Builder cannot be loaded into previous versions of Army Builder for Windows. If you send saved rosters to friends who have trouble reading them, make sure that they’re using the latest version of Army Builder too.
  • Many more letters and symbols are now available for use in your Army Builder rosters! No longer are you limited to the regular alphabet – fun symbols like ☯, ☎, ♫, ☃ and more can now be used in your saved rosters, as well as many more that are actually useful!
  • Army Builder is now Unicode-compliant on both Windows and Mac. (This is the technical explanation of items #1 and #2, above.)
  • On Windows, Army Builder now generates a special “dump” file when it crashes, which can be submitted to Lone Wolf Development for easier problem diagnosis.
  • Army Builder now verifies saved rosters after writing them, reducing the chance that an error could cause problems reading a saved file.
  • Opening a saved unit or squad from a folder with a “.” in the name no longer fails.
  • If additional stats were added to the data files, the stats output by the custom output mechanism would not change to include them.
  • In unusual circumstances, the same word could be displayed both at the end of a line and at the the start of the next line.

This new beta has one limitation - data files saved by ABCreator cannot use the new letters listed in #2, above. This is to preserve backwards compatibility with older versions of Army Builder - allowing those letters would prevent data files from loading into versions of Army Builder earlier than this one, so use of them is currently not available (and will be replaced by ?s in saved data files). We may revisit this decision, or allow users of ABCreator to control which version of Army Builder their data files are compatible with, in a future release.

If you install this beta and run into any problems, or if everything just works fine, please post in this thread and let us know. The changes we made to support non-English letters were pretty wide-ranging, so there's no one specific thing we'd like you to test - please just use Army Builder as you normally do and let us know if you have any problems.

Thanks - we appreciate your help!

Swet! I'll put that on my PC and give it a whirl. Any chance for a Mac Beta?

Will any files built in this impact previous versions (I might be answering own question but when authoring I suppose if none of the new features are used then there shouldn't be an impact)??

Are there any updates behind the scene with creator and any extra functionality that can be accessed?

My own Warlord Games gallery and the home of the Warlord Games datafiles:

Any files created with this version should still work in previous versions of the product, yes, as long as you don't use the new features.

No authoring updates in this version, sorry!
