So as long as you use unique ids that have a different form than the official ids, you'll be completely safe. For example, the ids for all merits start with a lowercase "m" prefix and merit levels start with "mx". If you used something different, you should be fine.

Assuming that the ids are different, the worst that would happen is that there would be two separate merits with the same name in the selection list. One would be your content and the other would be the one added to the core WoD data files. At that point, you could either tweak the name of your merit slightly to distinguish it or just leave it be. The two would co-exist fine.

Let me know if this isn't clear and I'll try to explain it better.
Okay... so I finally got around to trying to add some things and for the life of me can't. I feel I must be missing something REALLY simple... So I click on tools and go to launch editor. the start up screen comes up fine but when I I go to "open Data files" there are NO files anywhere in any of the hero lab files. What the heck am I missing?

You create a new data file in the editor, rather than editing existing ones. If you edited the existing ones, all your changes would be overwritten every time you updated the files.

Ahhh! Now I see, I thought what was popping up was a blank file with no info in it. I get it now! I knew it had to be something REALLY simple and I was just being thick headed...

Is anyone able to add the Judo fighting style from armour reloaded for me please, I have made several attempts in the editor but they have failed.

I would be really grateful.

What are you getting stuck on? If you could explain the problems you're encountering, I'll do my best to navigate you through the potholes. :-)

My biggest problem so far is getting them to appear on any list. I create the "things" create the merit but I can't seem to find them on any list.

Then I am not sure how to integrate them with skill specialisation ie: brawling (throw).

:S

After you create each thing, you *MUST* click the "Test Now" button at the top. That action will integrate the thing into the running database used by Hero Lab. If you don't do that, you won't see anything within HL.

I'm not sure how you need to integrate the things with the specialization. If you use the "Find Thing" mechanism within the Editor, you can quickly lookup the ids of all things. Another trick is to go to the Specializations tab and then click the "New (Copy)" button. Scan through the list, find the id of the specialization you're looking for, and jot it down, then cancel out. One last trick is to add the specialization to a character within HL, then right-click on it within the character and select the "Copy Unique Id to Clipboard" option.

Why not just start with all the additional Merits, Bloodlines, Disciplines out of the Covenant Books and move on to all the Clan books... Vampire is the most popular

Wouldn't it make more sense to get the "core" books done before any of the supplements (especially the supplements of supplements? :P ).

World of Darkness itself is done, so the next series of supplements like Mage, Werewolf, Promethian etc, should probably be next, correct? Or am I missing something?

Note: I'm really new to World of Darkness so if there's something super obvious I'm missing, my apologies.
