So, I have been developing a set of HomeBrewed sules using the MRQOGL. Basically something similar to Legends or OpenQuest. I am trying to decide if I should get the CoC DL and edit it or just use the AK and start from scratch.

However there are some confounding factors for this decision.
1) I know very little about programming
2) When I go to Tools>Show Editor in HeroLab for Pathfinder; I get a window telling me to go to File>New Data File>Open Data file. Unfortunately when I do this there is no File>New Data File to speak of.

Am I missing something?

You can't edit any rulesets, unless they're community rulesets (such as the one in my sig)

There is a sample you can use as a starting point, that's what I did.

Castles & Crusades Ruleset for Hero Lab
Hero Lab (5E D&D) -> Fantasy Grounds Character Converter

Maybe you're confusing the editor from the authoring kit.

The Editor let's you make changes to an existing ruleset, or over-ride certain things.

The Authoring kit is for creating new rulesets.
