With respect, Ian, Dropbox announced in June of 2016 that the API was being depreciated in a year, and then extended it to September 2017 beyond their original shutdown date because other developers petitioned them for that.

Actually, the blog post is dated April 23, 2015 and is specifically regarding the deprecation of the Sync and Datastore APIs rather than the deprecation of the v1 Core API. See this post.
On the other hand, I do not see anything that prevents LW from using the underlying Core API (now will be the v2 APIs) to accomplish the same functionality...

LW addressed why they can't use the new API in another thread.
