Adding a class with a familiar

I am trying to add a class that gains a familiar at level 3. The class is treated as a wizard of two levels lower for determining the characteristics of the familiar. I've looked at the srd_class_wizard and srd_class_sorcerer dat files and found little to lead me in the right direction. I also looked at the srd_arcanefamiliars dat file which appears to be empty.

Any help on how to go about setting up my new class would be useful.
