Is this possible?
I can transform a user-created category into a subcategory, but I can't do the same with a global category, not even if I remove its protection.
Any way to do it, or is it not possible?
Thanks if you can help

By Category are you referring to the large category section dividers?

If so they cannot be created or modified as they are hard coded in.

BTW don't remove protection. It is largely pointless.

RW simply has categories. I have no idea what a subcategory is. Rather than using undefined terms could you explicitly describe what you are trying to do?

Well, I need to remove protection to add entries to some category structures, but anyway, this is not important for this specific issue with subcategories, because protection on or off does not change the problem

Sorry, I used the term subcategory because it's the one used in the help and in the menu, anyway by subcategory I mean a category nested under another one

You should read the documentation. See World Builder's Guide:

Categories can be designed in a hierarchical manner if you wish. You can create a category as a child of another category (a sub-category), it orders all sub categories right after the category.

I did read the documentation, and I know how to create a new subcategory, and I also know how to transform an existing user-created category in a subcategory of another.
My question is: is it possivble (and if yes, how) to convert an existing global category into a subcategory of another?
Because for the existing global categories, the option is grayed out, and the drag and drop does not work.

Sorry, my comment about documentation was related to kbs666 not knowing about subcategories :-)

As kbs666 says, it is not possible to change the predefined categories (contents or hierarchy) without unlocking them. Even then, I don't know if you will be able to reparent them.

If I was worried about being to do this, I would create a blank test realm and then try and do things in there, and see what the side-effects/repercussions were of doing those things. Using a test realm will avoid immediately possibly breaking your live realm.

I don't think you can.

As to removing protection on the built in categories just don't do it. If you need to modify the existing categories make a copy and modify then name it "my people" or something and do your data entry there. I made this mistake in my original main realm. At some point some update broke my whole realm.
