So ... I want to understand ...

I don't remember where, but, I found and downloaded a number of preconfigured encounter files for a published adventure I want to run my players through.

Each encounter conveniently has its own portfolio.

Am I best to create a portfolio of my player's characters and import the encounters? Then I can just load into the tactical window and run the encounter?

Is it really that simple?

Is there a better way to do it?

I'd also thought I might try running this from my iPad. Maybe I should wait on that, though.

Never mind ... I see the iPad app is more for players, not GMs. :/

Pretty much you got it. The only difference is I am moving, slowly, those downloads over to use the HL Encounter Library format instead. In addition they will be available as downloads from inside of HL. I have a few moved over already but not all of them yet.

I tried moving the adventure portfolio's to an HL file through HLExport. It generates a library entry but when I open it in Encounter Library, the file structure is there, but no contents. They're all empty. The only portfolio imported is one I had built (with the character party) in the top level folder.

And just for giggles I put everything in a flat folder and took out the party portfolio. All the encounters are empty.

What could I be missing?

Last attempt for the evening. I loaded one of the .por from the folder and just did a straight "save" in case this is a HL version issue (It converts the party's .por file, so....). Nope. Same outcome. Empty entries in the Encounter Library. :/
