Hi all,

I seem to have real problems syncing with the cloud. Sometimes it can take up to 45 to 60 mins just to download the data on some of my devices - which is just too long.

Does anyone else have these problems and something that I should be doing?

Note, all my devices are fast, I have excellent internet connection and I don't have this problem streaming or downloading other data items.

Thanks

Steve

How big is your master.realm file? People have reported issues with syncing if their db was very big, multiple GB. If it is very large try compressing it and then syncing it.

Where can I find my master file? I can't see it in the program files or the docs?

Something I was considering was would it be practical if the program offered an option to back up to a (user-defined) backup location along with the other sync options. I realize you can do backups from the maintenance screen but I am curious if others would like to see it as an option when you leave the program...?

The program automatically backs up every time you close it. See your documents folder under Realm Works\Backups

You can change the backup directory and set how many backup copies to keep. I moved mine off my boot SSD and lowered the number of backups to reduce how much space they take up.

OK, my master file is 420,000 kb - shall I try compressing it?

That isn't a massive database really. Some of us have 2GB+ databases. Although if you only have one realm in your DB, then that is of a good size.

There is no harm in performing the database compression.

When syncing, do you get a warning about having to choose either your own local changes or the server changes? If this dialogue appears, then the entire realm is going to uploaded/downloaded during sync - which obviously takes longer.

If you don't see the above, then maybe put in a support request to see why your small database is taking so long to merge.
