Reading the various "what qualifies as a gaming nutter" it occurred to me that it might be something useful to the community to have a repository for "things" like that.
For example: If we take the "nutter thread" and were able to post on our profile what softwares we were familiar with and or using this might give others an idea of what software to look into. In turn, it might also help those trying to assist those with questions about how to utilize those other software with Realm Works & Hero Lab. IF I am conversing with someone who only has access to MS Paint, I could better provide them with an answer based on what they have availability for. And not go the CC3 or Gimp diatribes. Further if there were a thread that collected Forum member details on gaming types, experience, etc (for those that wished to post) it could serve as a cross-section post survey for those that have come aboard after the survey. IT could also serve as a jumping off point for newcomers to introduce themselves as there is no end user means (that I am aware of for looking for 1st posters). In another forum I am a writer for (shameless plug > http://www.canonfire.com/cf/index.php) We have an "Introduce Yourself thread" that covers how we got started in gaming, what software, gaming tools we utilize, and the varied interests we have. I recognize that within RW there is the "About Me" in your profile that addresses this, but IMO it doesn't do a few things adequately. Of course, the community may not see the need. And adding to the "About me" for Colen may not be "as easy as perceived". Just a thought DLG |

A sticky thread for "introduce yourself" would be an easy option.

Seems pointless to me. Are people on your other forum diligent about updating their post? It seems likely people will forget to update after they, say, get acquainted with more capable tools than Paint and Notepad. (I know I don't normally update my forum profiles! I just checked the Realm Works box in this forum's profile after, what, a year and change?)

Valid counter point,
Some would some would not. Just as some don't bother to fill any profile. This would be similar to those that create new threads before actually looking for similar posts already listed. Like all tools it would require effort. My thoughts were anything is more than what we have. |

Put it in your sig.
So mine could be, RW Projects - Emerald Spire, Giantslayers AP 1-3, Hunter the Vigil SAS's, Paranoia. Tools/Skills - CC3, Technical Writer, DB Designer, Beginner Programmer Hero Lab Projects - Gun H(3)aven, WoD Camarilla Fan Club data files. Wouldn't be a terrible idea. I might go and do that myself today at some point (time allowing) |

There we go...though I just realized...If I do this, anytime I come here and run a search for D&D 5e, to see if LWD pens a deal with WoTC I'll be kicking myself for putting that into my sig.

Except that encourages huge signatures, ones larger than many posts. That gets people to turn signatures off (it's an option in the forum's User Control Panel), and then you're back where you started. :( Mine's bad enough already, though at least it's only 3 lines high. (Plus one because I obsessively edit things. :( Last edited by Parody; June 3rd, 2015 at 12:58 PM. |
