I often never apply "configure hero" settings to a single hero, usually if I am doing this its for the portfolio.

I'd like to "configure portfolio" so I can apply my new books and settings to everyone at once.

Also, it doesn't look like the default settings are portfolio based, but program based.

My default settings for one portfolio are almost always different from another. I'd love to set "default portfolio settings".

The default settings should be the same anytime you make a character. For older characters created with a different setting, that would be the case that the old settings would appear. but one you change them in configure hero they should remain.

once the default settings are set up they will be used for all characters that are created from then on.

Not sure if that answers your question though.

Well, I guess in my case, I'd like a "profile default". I run 3 profiles of multiple characters based on the Pathfinder adventure path they play. So each one has various source books enabled. Some even have a few odds and ends that others do not.

In the Tools menu, choose "Duplicate Game System" - you can keep a different default in each copy.
