SWADE questions

So finally have the time to purchase and start working on converting some files over to SWADE. Jumping in on Beasts & Barbarians and Crystal Heart.

General questions:

  1. Are knowledge skills still a part of SWADE? I looked thru my book and seems to be no. But if I create a new toon from scratch, just SWADE - no setting books, nada, Knowledge still shows up in my list of skills.
  2. Shields: Okay, so using the editor, where are the fields to input cover modifier and hardness? I do not see them but they show up in the equipment list if you purchase a default shield.

I am sure more questions will pop up as I dive deeper into this.

Excellent! Please do!

The Knowledge Skill was removed from SWADE. I put in a configuration checkbox so you can re-enable it if you like. If you don't want to see it, uncheck that box.

On Shields, Cover needs to be added, and so does Hardness. Cover I just missed, and Hardness was not in the table so I didn't include it. I'll go ahead and add it when I add Cover.

For question 1, the sidebar on p. 30 states, "Knowledge has been broken down into the separate skills used in most campaigns. Specifically: Academics, Battle, Electronics, Hacking, Language, Occult, and Science." So technically it is not a part of RAW for SWADE. Of course p. 32 does have a sidebar talking about creating skills. Since Hero Lab has some ability to code in Knowledge skills with some ability to handle that, I would think it's good they decided to keep it available.

Not sure on your 2nd question.

(Edit: Ha! CC posts right as I was typing that response. :D)

Yeesh, does CapedCrusader ever sleep? :)

Okay, so I found the checkbox for Knowledge Skill. It works but I think it is backwards.

It says "Use the Knowledge Skill". If is unchecked, Knowledge Skill shows up. If you check it, Knowledge Skill is not used. Based on the wording of the checkbox, shouldn't that operate the other way around?

But, it does work either way so for now I just check the box. Thanks for the timely response.

The checkbox allows the "optional" use that Zarlor points out.
