How can I add weapon enchantments to a spiked shield within Hero Lab? I have a player with a sword and board that uses two weapon fighting with shield spikes. I have him pay for the armor enchantment separate from the weapon enchantment on the same shield. But he has also added keen to the shield spike, which should work since the spike is piercing. So how can I add the Keen enchantment to the shield spike in Hero Lab?

Thanks.

Have you tried putting Keen on the Shield? I say this as the spike is just increasing the damage and damage type of the Shield so there for putting keen on the shield should double the threat range to 19-20/x2 for display purposes.

I am not near HL but this is what I would do first to see what happens.

Yes, I have tried that. Under the Armor tab the only enchantments available for a shield are Armor type enchantments such as Light Fort and so on. On the Weapons tab I can not find Shield or Shield Spikes to add as a weapon.

A Shield Weapon, ie "Weapon" tab, automatically shows up when you add a shield. Then on the Shield Weapon you can add the spikes and then should be able to add the keen property.

So you added a shield on the Armor tab. This then shows you have a Shield, ARMOR, and a Shield WEAPON. So if you added a magic Shield ARMOR you can make the shield part magical and add ARMOR properties. The Shield WEAPON by default shows the stats for a shield BASH. You can then add Spikes to make it a Spiked WEAPON Shield. You *should* be able to add then Keen property then.

Hopefully that is clear as I am not near HL and going off of memory.

Ah yes. You are right. It is weird because first I have to go to the Armor tab to add the shield with spikes, then once added I can go to the Weapons tab and then edit the shield as a weapon, and add the weapon enchantments to the shield.

Thanks!

No problem. There is allot that HL does so sometimes its just learning how it needs/wants things done.

Feel free to ask any questions here. Usually someone has an answer.

Can you add Keen to a spike though? Keen only works for slashing weapons and a spike (I think) is pericing. So it might not be an option anyways.

Likewise the shield doesnt do slashing damage, but bashing. I'll have to see if it works though.
