What's the Delay?

I get Delays i just don't get why we haven't been updated in the delay or a hard date. November is technically still fall but no hard date or even news on if it is going to be spring of even fall of next year. but i feel the consensus is that everyone is getting tired of waiting. this newsletter thats coming out better be amazing or im done waiting.

It is well worth the wait sir. They have been keeping all of us up to date as Pyremius has mentioned and while it might not be easy for you to do so waiting is part of what getting in on the ground floor for new software like this is all about. There will be tons of functionality to work with once released as well. It will have the all encompassing broad aspects of campaign management like no other software currently out there or even in the process of being developed by any other software development company out there.

Trust me.. once released it will be worth it. So if you choose not to take part of the release... it is you that will be missing out on something great as well as your potential players too.

I wish you well in what ever you should choose... but I think your overall choice of not wanting to wait will put you in the minority.

You can then share information between those groups and such quite easily. and even make it so that character 1 from group A has information that character 6 from group C needs then you have that information handy.

From what I've seen the sharing of data... the ability to share data with all players is not the issue here.

What I want - what my gaming group wants (and we can't be the only ones) is the ability to share that treasure map with just a single player - the one that found it. Perhaps he decided that he didn't want to go tell everyone about it just yet. He wants to do some research about it first. I would want to share that information, that history, just with that single player. Eventually, perhaps a second player might learn some of that information.

That's what I want/need from a program like this, and from what I've heard it will not be there at v1.0. That's the part that I can't believe never came up during design or testing. I've never, in over 30 years of gaming, had it NOT come up.

Anyway, if it's possible to do that at release then I'm super happy! If I have to wait to purchase until that very basic, required feature is present then so be it.

Either way, this looks like the best tool for the job.

Another use case:

One character grew up in town A, another character has never been to town A, they are from town B.

To me, it makes sense that the player for the first character would have access to lots of information about the NPCs, shops, intrigue, politics, etc of town A and the other player would maybe know where the town is located, and its general size, but that's about it.

What's a GOOD software program without a few delays? LW is not Microsoft. Stop complaining about delays, or you'll get the equivalent of a MS product. :D

I would like to see the software support the capability of just a single player holding onto a piece of information. Having information that no one else knows can be key to a great adventure for that player. That said, there is something about hard copy that I will never lose favor of. While I'm eagerly anticipating the release of Realm Works, as it will keep me better organized, I am the sort that would rather have a good book in my hands vs a Kindle or Nook. My players will expect to still get something they can actually get their hands on (a map, a piece of script from a book, etc.)

Rob has said that player-specific knowledge will be coming, just not in 1.0, and that back-end support for it has been planned for. (see this thread, esp. post 9: http://forums.wolflair.com/showthread.php?p=160178#post160178)

The hard work for this kind of feature is the database structure/design that supports it, and it sounds like that has been done. I believe this feature will find its way to us not too far after 1.0...

I would like, if this new feature will be as much simple as revealing is now. Maybe just by adding a right-click function to the bullet-points and a submenü to select players. By left-click you can reveal the information as usual to all players.

I understand, that this may take some time after 1.0. So consider this a suggestion :)

/Casts the spell Haste on Lone Wolf Developers.
/Casts the spell Owl's Wisdom on Lone Wolf Developers.
/Casts the spell Fox's Cunning on Lone Wolf Developers.
/Casts the spell Bear's Endurance on Lone Wolf Developers.
/Casts the spell Resist Troll.
/Casts the spell Protection from Flames.

I understand that these things take time, but I REALLY wish there was a way to buy into the beta (speaking as someone who missed the Kickstarter). If the tool works at all, I'd be using it now. Also, the closer we get to Christmas, the less likely I'll be getting the program 'til next year. =/

release date... thats all i am asking for.... great there are delays can i get an update for those of use that still want it. is it going to happen in the next 26 days or not?

I hate to say this but they are not going to give a hard date this month. At least from their last news letter was any indicator. It is implied it WILL be very soon like maybe December.

But you make it sound like it easy for them to make this decision. From the newsletter they actually anguish over this type of decision... do they keep fixing and improving it.. or release it as a flawed program and hope that they can still fix it enough and fast enough not to lose sales or future word of mouth advertising. Right now they are going with option A.

Personally I would rather have a program that is what they said it was going to be and it is something I can accept their word on it and wait for it. It is hard knowing that there is something out there that could potentially help me in my endeavors and know full well it will be a HUGE boon to my campaign organization and my players and such too. But wait I will. Nothing I can do or say will change the fact I HAVE to wait for it. Meanwhile if I accept that I DO have to wait.. I can be more at ease and not as impatient. Griping about it to them just makes them more impatient and anxious too and does not help them at all.

So you have to choose. We know you want the product and soon... are you willing to wait for it or keep complaining about it and making it worse for them and making the situation worse overall?

The said last week that all the Kickstarter backers would have it very shortly. I'm not sure how far behind that the general release will be.

The rest of us must be patient. I've worked on software releases before and we (the consumers) are best waiting for the fix to the inevitable issues found during the beta testing. The pre-release to the kickstarters can also be seen as way to limit the amount of additional issues (yes, there is likely to be something that escapes the beta testers) that get released to the general public.

I, too, anxiously await the release of this product for general sale to the public as I have a world to build and pc's and npc's alike to populate it. These additional "delays" merely give me time to further develop my Word version of my world.

Although a bit "hokey"..... Every cloud has a silver lining. The silver lining in this case will be a program/utility that will be usable at first release to a very good portion of the customers with very few revisions to fix bugs. I can live with that.

Worries

I haven't read the newsletter yet, so I may be a little off base about this, but I have no problems waiting for the product to be up to the high standards that Lone Wolf sets for it's products. As a matter of fact, one of the reasons I'm excited about this product is because of the high standards that Lone Wolf has.

Things I do have a problem with. I have a problem with people who are in the beta coming on here and telling the rest of us, many who were just unlucky enough to find out about this product after the kickstarter, that we need to be patient. It's kind of like someone coming out of a club just to tell all the people standing outside how awesome it is on the inside. We all know that this will be a great product when it comes out, we don't need someone telling us that it already is a great product, it's really like rubbing salt in the wound.

I also have a problem with a hard date...or a soft date. When I first found out about this product, it was given a hard date of a particular month. July I believe it was, this was then changed to fall, and now it looks like it will be changed to winter. I would much prefer a "Coming soon" or something of the sort.

I also have a problem with all the people that are saying the closer to Christmas this comes out the less likely they are to buy it do to finances. It's a silly way to try and guilt trip the company. The closer it comes to Christmas, the more likely I am to ask for it as a Christmas gift. Personally I would be happy getting this released for Christmas so I CAN get it as a gift.

The last thing I have a problem with, and this is more of a worry, is that in the beta people are saying "Oh why don't we have feature A? I really want feature A, and I think other people would want feature A as well." Then release is getting pushed back, not because of a bug, but because someone really wanted feature A. I don't think that Lone Wolf would do that, but it doesn't change the fact that I worry about it.

With all that being said, keep up the good work Lone Wolf, I can't wait for this product to come out!

I'm as anxious as anyone else to get my hands on this, but I'm willing to wait a bit longer if it means getting the product I truly need vs. the one I want right now. At this point, I'm no worse off organization-wise than I was before RW was ever a thing; it's just my own excitement over RW's imminent release that's hard to manage.

couple things to that.... if it isnt coming out this month then the statement on their site "coming out fall of 2013" needs to be taken off because it is a lie. if it some how is coming out this month to make that statement true. surprising your customers with oh hey it is out! is kind of crap... also if it is within 2 weeks out they would know because it is putting the bow on the box and letting people pre order stuff.

at that same time if it is coming out in December they should also know that it is coming out then because a month away is still putting the bow on the box.

and of course they anguish over this type of talk. thats why they went with kick starter. so they dont need to have this conversation with a single backer that can with draw their money and they land on their face.
they went 70k over the asked amount you dont think that deserves a release date? a month away. hell that atleast deserves a coming out winter of 2013 online update.

dont give me a newsletter that says wow is me its tough for us too. give me a release date!
