First-timer, hello all.

I bought RW a week a go and have been deep in figuring it out to map my world. So, at first I created a bunch of categories (Factions, which I added Relationships and Containing Topics) I got a bit carried away and added a lot of content, not really paying much attention to what type of content I was creating, assuming I would be able to edit it later.

Then I "found" that I didn't want my factions to be Religious (little yin-yang icon) but Ethnic!

So I'm getting pretty frustrated because I find no way of editing the category type. Is this not possible or where am I NOT looking?

Any help appreciated.

Thank you.

Welcome to the forums

It's possible. I can't login at the moment but if you go into the article you want to change and click the tool bar icon up the top right of the topic you will get a menu option that include the ability to change the category.

There's also a way to do bulk changes but that's a bit more involved for me to direct you blindly.

Are you trying to change a custom category or move your existing items to a new category?

Editing is pretty easy; the name, icon, and simple grouping can all be changed even if the category has existing instances. For the category structure you need to duplicate the category definition so you have an empty category you can change.

If you want to move all of the Topics/Articles in one category to another you can do that from Manage/Categories: select the category, then use the category's Options menu (either hammer/wrench icon for the category, or F7) to Move All Topics/Articles.

If there's only some instances you want to move and others you want to leave, those you have to do individually by picking (Topic/Article) Category/Change (Topic/Article) To A Different Category... from the Options (hammer/wrench in the center pane or F7) menu for that Topic/Article.

This worked it. Thanks.
