I had a perfectly well functioning portfolio file containing the PCs I'm DMing. I also had running a functional user file I created with wondrous items I'd added. I decided to give the wizard in the group access to a spell from the Forgotten Realms dataset and one from the Dark Sun dataset. So I checked access to that in Configure Your Hero.

But after I did that I saw the wizard with a bunch of errors in the red diamond yellow exclamation point. I turned off the Forgotten Realms and Dark Sun check boxes in Configure Your Hero. That fixed most of the errors but it seems to have made items I created in a user file invalid that were fine before. So the fighter in the group had homebrew Bracers of Health +2 (to CON). Suddenly, the bracers appeared in red typeface. And the diamond/yellow exclamation error box says -- This selection not permitted (all effects are ignored).

Why did that happen and how can I go back to where the items I created existed? Thanks for any help.

In addition, while it did not wipe out access to all deities I created, it indicated that the deity from Greyhawk I'd recently created called Lydia was no longer a valid option. And it made inaccessible a modified bonded object I'd created. And it wiped out access to a language I created (Flan) and a feat I'd created called repulsive.

Very weird.

If I want to just pull the Blacklight spell (for instance) from the Dark Sun database, how do I do that? I tried Configure My Hero, then go to the editor and open my user file, create new spell based on copying an old spell (if I don't go to Configure My Hero first then I don't see blacklight as a spell I can create a copy of of). Then I make a few tweaks. But I find that if I try to give that spell to a hero that is configured without checking the Dark Sun box, I don't see the new copy of the spell as accessible.

I try to go into my user file and create a copy of the magic items that somehow got rendered unusable. And that doesn't fix the problem. Neither the original item nor the copy are visible in wondrous items I can add to a character anymore.

My take is the FR data set likes to Preclude races and Things when turned on that would be my guess as to why when you turned it on it suddenly caused things to become invalid. So that could be causing you some issues.

Next is when you copied one of the spells into your .user file you need to remove the "Source" otherwise the spell will still be linked to the FR/Darksun source. This means without it that book Check Marked in Configure Your Hero it won't display. Go into the editor and go to you copied spell. Find the "Source" button and open it and remove all the check marks. Save and Test Now and see if that works then for you.

It's a strange glitch. I was able to give some of the items to another character and for him they weren't read. (And there was no restriction on relevant wondrous items as to class of usage.)

Anyway, by playing with cycling through some checking and unchecking of the source box I was able to fix the problem in 90% of the cases. The only thing I had checked in Source was User Content so that must have some kind of memory back to FR.

Thanks again.

Excuse silly typo -- meant "red" not "read" above.
