After the 3.7 upgrade, this is the Target of my Hero Lab Manual start menu entry:
Code:
"C:\Program Files (x86)\Hero Lab\docs\manual\HLmanual.htm"
No such file exists. I do have an hpmanual.htm, and this appears to be the correct file.

I suspect the file is misnamed in the installation package.

The Hero Lab Tutorial start menu link is also broken. It points here:
Code:
"C:\Program Files (x86)\Hero Lab\docs\tutorial\HLtutorial.htm"
I do have an hptutorial.htm

And the same problem with the Hero Lab Authoring Kit link.

Just for FYI for LW I didn't install HL to the Program Files directory. I have all my stuff in c:\games\Hero Lab instead and all the links to the manuals and stuff work just fine. I know as I have been using them allot lately.

So wonder if it is only an issue with the Program Files(x86) folder.

Windows Vista (64) SP2

Same problem with my Windows 7 (64) SP1 machine.

I used the default locations for everything. I figured that'd be safest.

Thanks for reporting this - it looks like the link in the Start menu is broken (the filename should be "hpmanual.htm", not "hlmanual.htm", if you want to correct the shortcut yourself). That's something we'll have to fix in an update.

You can still access the manual and tutorial from within the product by selecting Help -> Help Topics -> View User Manual / View Tutorial, so you can load them from there. Hope this helps!

What does "hp" stand for in "hpmanual"? I'm curious now.

"HP" is the prefix code we use for Hero Lab, so the manual file starts with it. The use of 'H' is obvious, but the 'P' is not. You'll notice that your license number starts with 'HP', so the prefix code must comply with the rules for license numbers. The letter 'L' is not used in license numbers to avoid confusion between a lowercase letter 'l' and the digit '1', which look incredibly similar in many fonts. Consequently, we couldn't use 'L' and had to switch to a different character in the prefix code. When we first developed Hero Lab, we envisioned having separate versions for players and GMs, with the GM version including things like the Tactical Console and what-not. So the 'P' is for "Player", as in the "Player Version". Once we started adding the GM functionality, we realized those features were still potentially useful for players and abandoned the idea of a distinction. But the "HP" prefix lives on.

Hope you enjoyed that obscure bit of history...
