What I'd really like to see is an input field in the Manage Inventory
window that lets the user type in the name of the card and searches
for the card in real time. Magic Workstation and many encyclopedia
programs have a similar feature. For me, Card Vault is perfect in
every way, except it is too hard to find specific cards when dealing
with large lists (like the complete Magic card list), and Quick
Search almost always gives me the wrong result. I don't expect you
to add this feature because one person requested it, but are there
any plans for such a feature in the future?

The Quick Search feature was intended to provide exactly this (assuming I
understand the question correctly). Unfortunately, there is a bug in it
when used in conjunction with the Language and Style Restriction options
(via the Settings menu). This will be fixed in an upcoming bug fix release.

In the meantime, if you don't engage the Restriction options, then Quick
Search ought to work nicely.

It's also possible I'm not understanding the request properly. If so,
please clarify to put me on track. :-)

Thanks, Rob

You could also try quick searching again from the incorrect result, or else
use the text box in the Filter tool to grab only cards with BLAH in the
name.

If I understand him correctly, he means the same thing I meant when I originally brought up the subject. In Magic Suitcase, for one, there is a searchbox in the primary window (the floating Quick Search one is annoying) that when you press C automatically goes to the first card alphabetically that starts with a C. Then if you add an a, it goes to the first card alphabetically that begins with Ca, and so on. Download a copy of Magic Suitcase, its free and I prefer how its inventory and deck screen in one window works too. I guess what I'm saying is please rip them off. Please.

Yeah, Kyle was right about what I was looking for. I like Card
Vault's interface a lot more than Suitcase's though, and Card Vault
supports other games - I can finally get around to organizing my
Pokemon collection that's been sitting in my closet since 8th grade!
Disabling the restriction options did fix the Quick Search problem
(thanks!), but it's still no substitute for a real time search.

Not that anyone cares, but the technical term I've heard bandied about
for this feature is "incremental search".

OK, I now understand what you mean by "real time" search. It's been added
to the todo list....

Wow, you're willing to update your program because one person
requested it? This is the kewlest company ever! Remind me to buy
more of your products in the future.

If a feature sounds like something lots of folks could find useful, it will
definitely be put on the todo list. The number of folks asking for it (or
the anticipated utility of the feature) dictates the priority placed on it.
We can't do everything all at once, so we have to do the things that will
add the most value for the most users first.

We can't think of everything here. And we all use the product in our own
ways, so what works great for one person won't work as well for someone
else. If someone's got a good idea, we want to know about it so that we can
get it added to the product.

In my opinion, this just makes obvious sense. :-) It's a bit scary when
this seems to be an uncommon view among developers.
