A new update of the Pathfinder files for Hero Lab is now available from the automatic updates mechanism within Hero Lab.

This update adds Ultimate Campaign to Hero Lab. This is available as a new package, for $9.99. A few sections of Ultimate Campaign, specifically Kingdoms, Buildings, Organizations, Rooms, & Managers are behind schedule and were not complete by release time. They'll be added in the next few weeks as free updates for everyone who owns the Ultimate Campaign package, but the rest of Ultimate Campaign is ready to go.

For those of you who will be GMing at PaizoCon, I'd like to remind you of something we announced in our newsletter last week - we'll be giving copies of Hero Lab to all GMs at PaizoCon, or for those who already own Hero Lab, we'll add the Ultimate Campaign package to your license. (Or, if you want to use Ultimate Campaign now and not wait, go ahead and get that package, and you can take a copy of Hero Lab to give to someone else).

This update adds a second new package, Campaign Setting #10, which begins with Fey Revisited and Chronicle of the Righteous, and will get 1-3 more books from Paizo's Campaign Setting line, added as Paizo publishes more of those. This package is available for $4.99.

This update also adds player content from Pathfinder #70, and includes several bug fixes and improvements.

Here's the complete change list, copied from the FAQ:
New Releases!
  • Content from Ultimate Campaign is now available as its own new package.
  • Content from Chronicle of the Righteous is now available as part of Pathfinder Campaign Setting #10.
  • Content from Fey Revisted is now available as part of Pathfinder Campaign Setting #10.
Enhancements & Changes
  • Added player content from Pathfinder #70 "The Frozen Stars".
  • More NPCs from the NPC Codex have been added. In this update, we have the Experts and Warriors, which completes the NPC Codex. To use these, choose "Import Stock Hero" from the Portfolio menu, and choose their respective stock portfolio.
  • The info button for spells on the spells tab now shows the Caster level of that individual spell appended after the name. Now you can tell when a trait or feat is increasing the CL of certain spells.
  • The Feats, Traits & Flaws table on the printout and on the Feats summary tab have been separated into several individual lists.
Bug Fixes
  • If a custom item, like -Custom Gear- was purchased, the amount paid for it wasn't recorded as the value of the item.
  • The Mammoth Rider prestige class wasn't granting its additional animal companion choices.
  • The Mammoth Rider's mount wasn't getting its damage increase.
  • The Arcanamarium Crafter school wasn't granting its bonus feat at 3rd level.
  • Cavaliers now get their attack and armor class modifiers for a mounted charge.
  • Underfoot Adepts weren't getting their proper size modifier to CMB/CMD for trip attacks.
  • The Touch of Good adjustment wasn't adding the right bonus.
  • The cyphermage prestige class wasn't showing its correct pre-requisites for Pathfinder Society characters.
  • The flowing monk's redirection ability was calculating its DC incorrectly.
  • Under certain circumstances, the Sash of the War Champion could end up adding its bonus levels several times.
  • The Energy Attacks evolution wasn't adding in its extra damage.
  • The Summoner's Blindsight Aspect was assigning Blindsense instead.
  • The Juju Zombie was applying it's Damage Reduction incorrectly. The amount was not increasing to DR 10 when applied to a character with 11 or more HD, and the type of DR was Magic or Slashing, instead of being Magic and Slashing.
  • Certain templates (such as the petitioner templates) would throw an error if added to a character before a race had been selected.
  • The Petitioner templates were not properly disabling subtypes, which meant that characters were still gaining the benefits of a subtype even though it had been hidden.
  • The Rude Songs trait needed a situational bonus to Perform (sing).
  • The Ferocious Strike ability of the Ferocity domain needed an activation for its damage bonus.
  • The War-saddle had incorrect summary text.
  • The Ear for Music trait raised an error if you added it without having Knowledge (local) on a character.
  • Memory Lapse was incorrectly showing as a first-level domain spell for the memory domain.
  • The Succubus' Profane Gift racial ability was not showing in the tracked resources and had no summary.
  • Improved Fiendish Sorcery wasn't granting its benefits to the bloodline powers from the rakshasa and shadow bloodlines.
  • The headband of ninjitsu wasn't granting its insight bonus to sneak attack rolls.
  • Custom Class Abilities (like Hexes or Rage Powers), magic items, and feats were not showing the information for their associated spells when choosing them, only after being chosen.
  • Classes with access to all spells on their spell list (like the Cleric) were incorrectly showing "Riffle Scroll" as an option to memorize, right below "Custom/Metamagic spell".
  • The Output Hero Statblock was outputting gear names incorrectly. For example potions and other magic items would not show the quantity when a stack of multiple items was present. Also, anything with user entered text was showing only that text, even when that was meant to only be additional information. For example, "Holy symbol, wooden (Erastil)" was being displayed as "Erastil".
  • The Boggard race was missing default Hp.
  • The Dungeon Rover archetype was granting Knowledge (dungeoneering) instead of Knowledge (engineering).
  • The Blasphemous Covenent drow alternate racial trait was missing its situational bonus.
  • The Big Ears trait wasn't adding its situational bonus to hear noise.
  • The Infiltrator inquistor archetype wasn't adding itself to the class name correctly.
iPad Changes & Bug Fixes
  • Adding and equipping certain gear items (such as a custom wand), or changing the number of times a spell was memorized from 1 to 0, wouldn't immediately display the proper items in the main character sheet view.
  • Melee weapons were not being properly displayed on statblock output.
  • Double weapons should now work correctly with the dice roller.
  • In certain circumstances, the "spell adjustments" table in the adjustments list could become too small to use.
Data File Authoring
  • The abAdd field was added to all things that already had abValue, abValue2, etc. The CalcValue and TotalValue procedures, which are used in speeds, damage reductions, energy resistances, and SR to calculate the value of that thing (and hide it if the value is zero) will now add abAdd to the value they calculate, but only if there is already a non-zero value present.
  • Added concentration check, overcome spell resistance, and base spell DC for all classes to the custom output XML format.
  • Expanded the information available about saving throws and spell resistance for spells in the custom output XML format.
  • Added the CR and XP award for a character to the custom output XML format.
  • The DescInfo tag group has been added. Like SpInfo, this tag group appends the name and text for another thing to the end of a thing/pick's description text. This is used extensively for army abilities (many of which reference another ability), and can be used by a spell to reference another spell (which is commonly needed by "communal", "greater" or "mass" versions of a spell). In most cases where a spell is referenced by a non-spell, SpInfo should still be used, since that gives full information, like range, area of effect, and so on.
  • The cSplMaxNoA field has been added to classes. This stores the maximum level of spells a class could cast, regardless of what their attributes limit them to. It is primarily used to streamline the calculation of the Spellcasting army ability.
  • Added the usrIndex field to things which could select an option from an array. Previously, eval scripts which needed to detect what choice had been made were forced to compare the string of the selection to some target string. Now you can merely check against the value of usrIndex, which uses less resources (although the old method still works too).

Since Ultimate Campaign's material is spread around Hero Lab, here's an index to where you'll find its various sections:

(If you want to look at this later, it's available from the Help menu within Hero Lab...Pathfinder FAQ)

Ultimate Campaign Index
  • Chapter 1: Character Background
    • Background Generator: These are found on the History tab. Among the Configure Hero Settings, there are two options that turn this on; "Unrestricted Traits & Drawbacks", which allows you to add background options, and then will highlight any traits, story feats, or drawbacks that your background has granted you access to, so that you can use it as a list of trait, drawback and story flaw recommendations. The other option, "Traits & Drawbacks Require a Background" is similar - it will also hightlight the traits, drawbacks and story flaws, but this option will also prevent you from selecting any traits or drawbacks that you have not been given access to by a background. "Unrestricted Traits & Drawbacks" defaults to being on for anyone who owns the Ultimate Campaign package.
    • Traits: These are found on the Feats tab.
    • Drawbacks: These are found on the Feats tab.
    • Story Feats: These are found on the Feats tab.
  • Chapter 2: Downtime
    • Downtime Activities: These activities can be handled by normal purchases (at a reduced price), and by adding cash and XP as new journal entries.
    • Managers: Coming Soon
    • Rooms and Teams: Coming Soon
    • Buildings and Organizations: Coming Soon
  • Chapter 3: Campaign Systems
    • Alignment: This is found on the background tab. This optional rule is turned on using the "Ultimate Campaign Numerical Alignment" option. This is turned off by default, because it replaces the normal way of choosing an alignment with a new system.
    • Bargaining: When purchasing an item you have bargained for, you can set the price you actually ended up paying before pressing "Add".
    • Companions: These are roleplaying suggestions. Your decisions can be described on the Personal tab or as journal entries.
    • Contacts: These are added on the Social tab. This option is turned on using the "Ultimate Campaign Campaign Systems" option, which is turned on by default for anyone who owns the Ultimate Campaign package.
    • Exploration: This a system that applies to the entire party, and won't be recorded on individual characters.
    • Honor: The honor code you follow and any changes to your honor score are added on the Social tab. This option is turned on using the "Ultimate Campaign Campaign Systems" option, which is turned on by default for anyone who owns the Ultimate Campaign package.
    • Investment: These are added on the Other tab. This option is turned on using the "Ultimate Campaign Campaign Systems" option, which is turned on by default for anyone who owns the Ultimate Campaign package.
    • Lingeage: These are roleplaying suggestions. Your decisions and the events of the game can be described on the Personal tab as character history, in journal entries to describe campaign events, or perhaps as Relationships on the Social tab, or as character background on the History tab.
    • Magic Item Creation: If your character creates a custom magic item that's different from any existing item, you can use the integrated editor to create the new item. From the Tools menu, choose "Launch Editor", and then choose "New Data File" from the File menu. The editor manual, with several tutorials, is available from the Help menu within the editor - choose "Help on Using the Editor".
    • Relationships: These are added on the Social tab. This option is turned on using the "Ultimate Campaign Campaign Systems" option, which is turned on by default for anyone who owns the Ultimate Campaign package.
    • Reputation and Fame: Your current reputation can be found on the Social tab, and you have the option of adding Aliases or Group Reputations there. Changes to your fame are made on the Journal tab, in the "Prestige Award and Reputation Journals" section. This option is turned on using the "Ultimate Campaign Reputation and Fame" option, which is turned on by default for anyone who owns the Ultimate Campaign package.
    • Retirement: This is a roleplaying decision that doesn't alter the things Hero Lab tracks (although you may want to add Journal entries describing your retirement).
    • Retraining: All of the changes can be made by deleting what you are retraining and adding whatever you replaced it with. The cost of retraining can be paid by adding a journal entry, and setting the correct negative amount of cash earned.
    • Taxation: Taxes can be paid by adding a journal entry and setting a negative amount of cash earned.
    • Young Characters: To make a young character, on the Personal tab, add "Age Effects: Young" from the Permanent Adjustments table.
  • Chapter 4: Kingdoms and War
    • Kingdoms: Coming Soon
    • Mass Combat: On the configure hero form, change the character type selection to "Army" to create an army. The Army and Army Status tabs will be added, where you can alter the army-specific information. If you have a normal NPC or monster, and want to use an army of that character, you can re-open the Configure Hero form from the Character menu, change the character type, and then use that army.

Hi,

I am getting the following error when loading Hero Lab with the new update.

The data files could not be loaded due to errors. Hero Lab will now attempt to load them in recovery mode. Once loaded you can access the editor as normal to correct any errors.

The following errors occurred:

File: PFRPG_Adjustments_frumple.user (line 335) - Thing - Duplicate record encountered ('pACNatural)

Help

You have a community file and there is now a clash.

Edit the community file (FRPG_Adjustments_frumple.user) and change pACNatural to pACNaturFr for now.

This may break PC's that used Frumple's AC adjustment, but will allow it to compile.

In the History tab, you can use the counter to show how many Biological Siblings you have. Apart from text, is there any such way to show the number of Adopted Siblings?

If we missed an adopted counter, please report the specific option we missed it on as a bug - be sure to specify which race this is for, and which particular option is missing its counter.

The adopted counter is next to the biological counter. You might want to check if you selected the right sibling choice.

I realized the data set I was testing had custom races; the bog-standard ones appear fine. However, now I need to figure out how to have those custom races have the Adopted counter.
