Well, I went to the mall and picked up a copy, and I've realized that
Quick Search really isn't all that bad. I was able to input my
collection fast enough (it took me 6 hours, but 3 of those hours was
spent playing Zelda, and another hour was spent chatting online).
Although, I have noticed a little room for improvement.
Specifically, an easy way to sort the cards within your decks would
be nice, along with an option to merge cards with identical names
when outputting your inventory. And, if possible, more customization
for inventory and deck reports would be nice, like numbering each
card or adding page breaks between different colors, but modifying
the html code's really not that hard. This is all nit-picking
though; Card Vault is a solid program, and I can live without all
these adjustments. Are there any plans for new software in the
future?

Wow, this turned out pretty coherent comsidering it's 3:30 in the
morning.

You can do this by right-clicking the column titles in the deck view and
choosing 'sort ascending' or 'sort descending'.

Turst me Colen after having used it for a couple of days now the
number of filters in place, specifically for the game i play, Magic,
is staggering. Just play with them they are easy to use.

The only real difference between a "real-time" search and the current Quick
Search is that you have to hit the <Enter> key to trigger the jump. Not
exactly a huge extra effort. :-)

Right-click on the column header. Select the sort to use. You can't
single-click to do this as a safeguard against accidentally re-sorting a
deck that has been carefully organized. :-)

You can use the "Restrict" options under "Settings", as well as the Filter
mechanism to help with this. You can also highlight exactly the cards you
want and output only those cards. Beyond that, merging cards doesn't seem
like a good idea for inventory, since the cards are distinct and have
separate totals. Please explain how it would be a good thing to merge
duplicates within the inventory, since it's escaping me right now.

Card numbers can be included as a column. Or do you simply want "line numbers"?

Adding page breaks between colors is starting to get very specicialized.
Before that stuff gets added, I think there are still some much more meaty
features that would be of significantly more value to add first. Features
like this get added when we start running out of "cool" things to add. And
my todo list is still a mile long. :-)

There's a bug fix release planned shortly. After that, nothing is definite yet.

By "new software", are you referring solely to new Card Vault updates? Or
are you referring to something else?

I can empathize. It's now just past 5am.... :-)

A merging option would be useful for organizing collections for
gaming purposes. If you have two Counterspells from 7th edition and
two Counterspells from Mercadian Masques, for example, it would be
more helpful to output "four Counterspells" than "two Counterspells
and two Counterspells". Also, a merging feature would be useful if
you want to maintain a binder and keep a reference to where each card
can be found, and you want to keep cards with identical names in the
same slot.

OK, so you're looking for the merge functionality solely to collapse
output? That's more tractable. I'll put it on the todo list.

Someone recently asked for the ability to merge duplicates for tracking
quantities, including target/acquire/excess, and that's a LOT of work
(assuming it's even feasible).

Thanks, Rob
