How would I go about checking the choice of familiar and giving an error if it's not a valid choice? I'm working on a prestige class that combines animal companion and familiar capabilities into an animal companion at the cost of having a familiar, so the only valid choice for familiar is "none." I'd like to let the user know this. I also see that the In Play tab lists the familiar with some check boxes -- would there be a way to emulate that from the animal companion choice?

Thanks.

I'm not sure what the intended effect of this would be. How does the
class have an animal companion and a familiar, but the only valid choice
of the familiar is "none"? Could you explain further?

I can't think of one off-hand. What are you looking to have appear for
animal companions in the list of charges?

Basically, taking the first level in this prestige class forces the character to give up any familiars he/she has. It also gives an animal companion (from another class, the PrC itself doesn't give access to animal companions) familiar-like abilities. So, I'd like to be able to tell the user that they have to get rid of their familiar from the wizard (or sorcerer) panel (and maybe show the animal companion on the In Play panel as a familiar).

Hope that clears it up a bit.

Interesting. I'll see how much work this would be to implement.
