A new update of the Pathfinder files for Hero Lab is now available from the automatic updates mechanism in Hero Lab.

The classes in Occult Adventures are so complex that it's taking us a while to get them finished, but since we've passed the halfway point, we decided to give you all the classes that are finished, rather than waiting for the last ones before releasing it all.

This update adds the Medium, Mesmerist, Psychic, and Spiritualist classes from the Occult Adventures playtest. The Kineticist and Occultist are still being created, and we'll get those to you as soon as we can.

This update also has a few bug fixes.

A warning about this playtest material; once Occult Adventures itself is released (it's scheduled for a Gen Con 2015 release), all of the playtest material will become a part of our Occult Adventures package. For those who purchase this package once it's released, the characters you've created during the playtest will continue to work in Hero Lab, and you'll get access to the new content added in the full book (with the caveat that if something about the class changes between the playtest and the full version, there may be some changes you need to make - for example, if the class selects from among several abilities, and one of the options you selected for that slot is removed after the playtest, your character will have an unselected ability to choose, in order to replace the one that's no longer legal). If you do not purchase the Occult Adventures package, any levels of the playtest classes will be removed from any characters that used them. (As a note, this is the same way we handled the ACG, APG, UC, and UM playtest classes in Hero Lab).

Also, be aware that this is playtest material. We'll try to keep up with any official updates to the playtest as it proceeds, but we'll always be at least a few days behind. Also, if things about these classes change during the playtest period, existing characters using the class that changed may end up with errors.

Here's the change list for this update:
New Releases!

  • Many of the classes from the Occult Adventures Playtest are now available! This release includes the Medium, Mesmerist, Psychic and Spiritualist classes from that playtest, as well as the new spells. The Kineticist and Occultist will be added soon.
Enhancements & Changes

  • -
Bug Fixes

  • Races and Templates that are included in the Bestiary Free Content are now also tagged as coming from their original book, so that you can turn on either the free bestiary content or the original book to see that material, which avoids confusion.
  • Etherealness had the wrong range set.
  • When trading a bloodline ability for 2 rage powers, the Primalist Bloodrager archetype was replacing lower level abilities that had an upgrade at the same level as the targetted bloodline ability.
  • The Snakebite Striker brawler archetype was replacing the Martial Flexibility ability, but not eliminating the bonus feat slots meant to be used with those, which could cause confusion.
  • The Martial Master fighter archetype needed a little more information appended to the Martial Flexibility class specials to explain how it differed from the base Brawler version.
  • The bonus Outflank feat granted by the Hunter's Precise Companion ability was being counted for both Hunter Benefit tables on the animal companion, but could only be added to one. This resulted in one of the tables always complaining that it needed another selection.
  • Feats which required the hero to have the Blessings class feature were not acknowledging when the ability was gained by a class other than warpriest (such as the divine hunter ranger archetype).
  • The Quicken Blessing feat was not recognizing the delayed level at which the Divine Hunter archetype gains Major Blessing powers.
  • The Aberrant Bloodrager bloodline was gaining Aberrant resistance at 12th level, instead of 16th.
  • Several stock heroes from Bestiary 1 were missing their race and reporting errors when imported through the encounter builder.
  • The "Goblin, Oversized" race was not counting as a goblin for the purposes of satisfying pre-reqs (for example, those needed by the Goblin Mutant template).
  • The Face of Dagon wondrous item and the Ground Mummy Skin drug were missing, and several other items from Carrion Crown needed to be disallowed for Pathfinder Society Characters. The Moribund Key was also not specifying the "/day" usage period for it's vampiric touch spell like ability.
  • The Sihedron Medallion item was incorrectly sourced to Seekers of Secrets, rather than only Rise of the Runelords.
  • The Whirling Dervish's Dervish Dance ability had an incorrect summary.
  • The Scroll Scholar archetype (wizard version) was incorrectly accepting divination subschool specializations as satisfying its pre-reqs.
  • The Pressure Suit item had an incorrect cost, and was missing its weight.
  • Vermin Familiars were not getting the class skills normally allowed for familiars.
  • On the Abilities tab, a note about the dice roller still referred to it being in the "View" menu, rather than its new location in "Tools".
  • Synthesist Summoners were not gaining their fused eidolon's abilities as they advanced in level (like darkvision, devotion, and evasion). Note that a fused eidolon "has no skills or feats of its own." and so even when the summoner hits 9th level Multiattack is not gained.
  • The Ability Score Damage adjustment was not reducing the attribute bonus for skills linked to that attribute correctly.
  • Many of the newer adjustments which allow you to choose a bonus type to apply were reporting errors and not working.
  • The A Thousand Faces druid ability was incorrectly marked as a (Sp) ability, instead of (Su).
  • The Skill Focus feat was not recognizing when 10 ranks were granted to the selected skill by an Int boosting item and doubling its bonus.
  • Alternate Racial Traits which need to calculate their DC based on the total HD rather than racial HD were not set up to do so, resulting in too low of a DC for the Neriad Fascination ART.
  • Effect Words were reporting a nonsense error about having no associated classes when used to construct wordspells.
  • Effect Words were not passing on information to the wordspell about what sort of damage they deal, meaning the Elemental Focus feats were unable to recognize and increase their DC appropriately.
  • A number of the traits from Ultimate Campaign had various issues (like applying effects even when disabled, reporting errors if the skill they apply to was missing, and not specifying what type of bonus they apply). I've done a full review and fixed every issue I found.
  • The Snapleaf item was not able to track how many had been used on the In-Play tab.
  • The Eldritch Heritage feat was not recognizing when its skill focus pre-req was satisfied if the bloodline gained granted a class of skills (such as the Maestro bloodline granting all Perform skills). In such cases, our interpretation is that Skill focus in any skill of the group is sufficient to fulfill the pre-req, not that you must have skill focus in every perform skill.
  • The ratling familiar was showing as legal for Pathfinder Society play.
  • Oathtaker was showing as legal for Pathfinder Society play.
  • Besmara's bones was showing as legal for Pathfinder Society play.
  • The slave collar from Shattered Star Chapter 5 - Into the Nightmare Rift was showing as legal for Pathfinder Society play.
  • The wayfinder of infinite doorways was showing as legal for Pathfinder Society play.
  • The adjustment for mythic mage armor wasn't displaying its bonus correctly.
  • The hedgehog familiar wasn't able to replace its defualt feat.
  • The adjustment for Bardic Performance: Inspire Courage wasn't applying to CMB.
  • Several animals were labeled as mounts that should have been labeled as pets.
  • The pseudodragon minion had its name misspelled.
  • The adjustment for Monstrous Physique I (Small) was applying an incorrect natural AC bonus.
  • The breastplate of vanishing had incorrect stats.
  • Defender of the Society wasn't applying its bonus correctly.
  • The Whirling Dervish's Dawnflower Dervish ability wasn't appylying its damage bonus correctly.
Data File Authoring

  • Picks that use user selection options can now choose to display those options on the In-Play tab in the Activated Abilities section by checking the "Show selection options on the In-Play tab?" option in the editor. This is intended for abilities that can make a selection, but whose selections can be changed during the course of play, and aren't fixed.
  • Added several new AbReplace tags, for Bloodrager Bloodline Xth level abilities. For example, adding AbReplace.cBlrBl8th will search through the bloodlines' bootstrapped class abilities, find the one bootstrapped at 8th level, and disable it. This includes logic to correctly identify which is the 8th level ability, should there be multiple bootstrapped to that level. This is used for the Primalist bloodrager archetype.
  • Specials can now have a combination of two types of selectors/extra things. Prior to this you could have either an array, or a checkbox, or selector 1 and selector 2. Now you can combine any two of those you need.
  • Added the actIncrNam field, which is a label field for incrementers on the In-Play tab's Activated Abilities table. It works similar to the usrLabelAr field, in that it is never shown if the associated incrementer is hidden, but if the incrementer is there then it appears only if text is present in it. This is currently used for the Influence totals for medium spirits.

I think there might be an issue with the "Show selection options on the In-Play tab" option. After the update, I'm seeing the Artisan trait's skill selector on the in-play tab. I checked the Artisan trait, and the In-Play tab checkbox is not checked.

For some reason, even though the checkbox is not checked in the editor, checking the debug tags on the thing show that it DOES have Helper.ActivMenu - not sure where that tag is coming from.

We'd really appreciate it if everyone could please use the stickied thread for bug reporting. Version posts are un-stickied every time there's a new version, so your bug report won't stay at the top for long if you post it here.

Mathias,

Maybe there's a post I've overlooked as I don't log onto the forums enough so if this is repetitive I apologize. It's possible that I'm doing something incorrectly, however the last three update versions for Mac have each time completely nuked all user content.

The files get marked as read only in the appopriate data sub-directory. In addition, it won't reference the new items propertly, meaning if <bootstrap "random-thing"> and that item are defined in the same file it's throwing errors.

Is this being looked into because it's making any customization of campaign content etc..., completely unusuable. I can give more specific's if you like.

Hi Kalima,

This definitely isn't intended behavior, and we haven't seen any other reports of this happening. Please email support@wolflair.com with your details and we can look into this - thanks!

Bug report submitted. Post that update last night, my specific HL install also does a hard crash every time a portfolio is saved. I will export the log output and open a 2nd Support ticket.

Thanks for prompt response!

It appears the source of some of the custom problem is some field redefinitions.

As a couple of examples:

field hTotal => trkMax
field mMaxDex => ArmorMaxDx
field vFort => svFort
field kConcent => skConcent

So when you're redefining fields that have been used to craft custom items and abilities, they .user files need to be scanned and updated for definition changes, or this data needs to be published. (It might already be and I am not aware of the location, but I've not to date found a good field map for the DB)

Additionally I have found if I re-install all the third party content it compiles correctly into the software now. However, being forced to re-install everything each time is a bit cumbersome.

I owe everyone an apology. It appears I got a 3.5 custom edit file and a 3.5 pathfinder edit file overlapped in my version control software. I think this issue is resolved.
