SR4 gear availability

Hey guys, I'm building a starter character and I have been given access to some gear not typically available in creation. Is there a way to modify availability limits while the character is unlocked? Or will I have to lock it and "purchase" it afterwards? If so should I drop the BP into some kind of placeholder to signify the wealth it took to buy it?

Any thoughts or recommendations welcome.

On the adjust tab, will the "Ignore an item's availability" help, if it's only a few pieces of gear?
