hehe I *am* using windows 2000, and yeah, it's pretty stable. Still
doesn't compare to linux, though.

Anyway, after much shouting and gnashing of teeth, I managed to
recover it. Another program (a great one, but a little tiny typo
slipped to the autoupdater) deleted my root directory of windows. one
small stop to the boot disks later, I'm back on the saddle. False
alarm.

As for the other question: never mind, after those clarifications I
asked for it's clear that something like that is not needed. Case
closed, but thanks for tossing the ideas around.

I've been running win 98 for 4 years on this machine. I've never had to
reinstall. (Yes, I tweak and install/uninstall a lot of programs).

You may want to stop poking at it. (Or you could put in another drive
and leave it as the windows drive).

This would eliminate headaches for you and Rob.
