I am running a game where we are using mostly core. I am allowing a few things like traits and letting the rogue go unchained.

But I want to also allow the wizard to go have the Archetype Thassilonian Specialist.

I own nearly every book. Is there anyway to allow him to pick that archetype without having to select the Advanced Players Guide from the options. He does not want to get confused by more spell options, just wants to see the core options.

I have tried messing with the editor, creating a duplicate of the archtype. Editing source, but as soon as I unselect APG from the options the archetypes just go away fully. No way to select it.

I am willing to dig into the editor for this. I even have an xml update file for my players to get updated edits, I am just not sure howto do this.

tldr: How can I use the editor to add an archetype while only keeping the core rules (no APG checked)

Suggestion, use PFS core character mode, and the adjustments from the community pack. Then they can filter the options to what is legal. If you then choose to allow something else just use another adjustment to flag it as legal.

What do you mean by:

"as soon as I unselect APG from the options the archetypes just go away fully. No way to select it."

Are you saying the archetype itself does not show in the selection window for archetypes? Or do you mean the options for it (the wizard schools) do not show anything to select?

Or, 3rd option, when you are "unselecting APG from the options", do you mean in the configure hero window, or do you mean in the editor on your new archetype?

Currently my players have nearly everything unchecked (all splat books, etc). So in the Configure Hero window, when I unselect APG from the Configure Hero Window (or Choose Hero Settings on the iPad) the button to select an archetype goes away.

ie: In the Classes tab, under the class levels and starting cash. The Archetypes option goes away.

This is what I have tried:
Open editor. Class->Archetypes.
New(copy)-> Find Thassilonian Specialist
Rename it "Thassilonian Specialist - Limited"
Give it a uniqueId for myself.
Change the Sources to only include Rise of the Runelords Anniversary Edition (which my players have checked)
Save
Test Now.

Now if APG is checked in the Configure window, Thassilonian Specialist - Limited shows up in the Archetypes window. But as soon as I go into the Configure window and uncheck APG the option to even select an Archetype just goes away.

I an definitely new to the editor, and could be missing something. Thassilonian Specialist is detailed out in the Rise of the Runelords Anniversary edition book. So I was hoping I could have it show up by just having that selected. Is there something I missing?

Open your character or on a new character press "CTRL-K" to get to the "Configure Your Hero" window. Near the bottom of the list is "Optional Rules" and turn on "Use Archetypes". That should show the ability to add an archetype even when the APG is not turned off.

Ah, if that is your issue ShadowChemosh's suggestion is correct, but I think you will also have to make sure your copy of the Archetype does not have the APG or any other source.

Hmm! I swear I tried that and it didn't work.

But I tried again, and that seemed to have done it.

In the time since I posted this my player is taking away that archetype, and I am allowing APG to all the players. So it does not matter anymore..

I appreciate your help though!
