Hi all,

I was attempting to create a custom magic item this evening and I've run into some very frustrating challenges. I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong and so I've come to the forums for help.

I created a new data file in the editor. I'm attempting to create a magical mask so I copied the death mask from the list in wondrous items. So far so good. I rename, change the source to User defined and save.

I click test now and it says it's good to go in hero lab. I check hero lab and there it is! I'm pretty pumped.

so I go back and start modifying the item. I remove the death mask powers and then add some "Append reference information" that I want, this is where things go off the rails.

After adding some of the options I want I save and then click test item button again. Suddenly it is no longer in the list! I was like hmmm, so I go and remove the options I just put on and no change.

So, I make a second copy. Try and figure out what I clicked to cause the issue but no luck. I close out of everything to attempt to reboot the system and this brings back the first mask but with none of my changes (other than the name itself) applied, even though I see them clicked in the editor.

I'm not sure why this is happening. I have attached my user file so someone could perhaps tell me what I'm doing wrong?

One thing I was doing was picking multiple reference items with the same name to figure out which one was the one I needed. I would not think this mattered since they have unique tags, but maybe I'm messing something up.

Any assistance would be most appreciated. Thanks!

In the Character Menu...Configure Hero - on the character you are testing, is there anything under "User Content", or does it say "(no user sources defined)"?

By selecting "UserParent" as your source, you've actually selected the line named "User Content" as what the character will need to have turned on in order to use this material, so unless a child source is defined and turned on, that parent source cannot be checked by itself. If the source for an item is not turned on, the item is not shown to the user.

My recommendation is to make a new source, and change the source that's set on these items to that, instead of the current choice of source.

Just goes to show, it is always the little things. I changed my source to Mythic Adventures (which I know I own) and poof there it is. As always, thanks Mathias.

Bonus question. The item in question has a variety of powers. A few immunities for example. How do I get those to show in the special tab when equipped?

I believe you need to make some "things" out of each special you want listed and then bootstrap them on the item and give each bootstrap a conditional expression asking if the IsEquip tag present or active.
