Hi there gurus,
So I have HL installed on my desktop and laptop and I use the software "Dropbox" to automatically sync all my files/bookmarks/pdfs/notes. I'm trying to force HL to alllow me to save into the ...\My Documents\Dropbox folder, but I cannot do so. I'm suspecting that HL may not be allowing me to select a folder which has files already in it? Can you help me fix this? |

Dang, I just tried to do this same thing. No reply to this yet huh? I am wondering why we can't choose the folder we want. Why does it only show some of the folders? Is it the reason suspected by the original poster?

are you trying to save system files there or user created files?
for user created files you should be able to save them anywhere. by user created, i need to filter that a bit, i mean .por files. (like NPCs and PC) the .user files are pulled into HL when it loads so they all need to be in the install location for HL. (files created using the editor) Web site - Cheese Weasel Logistics - www.cheeseweasel.net Twitter - @CheeseWeaselGMZ For user created content check out www.d20pfsrd.com and www.cheeseweasel.net For video demos of Hero Lab go to http://www.youtube.com/user/TheChiefweasel?blend=9&ob=5 |

Hmm, good question - for some reason the Dropbox folder doesn't appear in the list of folders under "My Documents". I'll check into this and see if I can fix it for the next version of Hero Lab.

I'm sorry for hijacking the thread. But the same is for Army Builder. Infact if I take army builder "up a Level" all the way to c:, I do not see the "C:\Users" directory on my Win7 laptop or the "c:\My Documents" folder on my XP desktop.

I have done exactly what you are talking about without issue on two different XP computers.

Changing the Settings->Alternate Save Folder or using File->Save As?

The other post of mine hasn't posted yet.
But I discovered a way to set the Alternate Save Folder. Open or a "Save as" to the location of what your want the Alternate Save Folder to be. Now you can go to Settings--Alternate Save Folder--Select Alternate Save Folder. Then ok, Now it should be saving and opening from that location. It works if I do this in Army Builder. I tryed in the Demo of HeroLab but it will not let me save a file and I dont have a file to open. The interface looks the same so it will probably work in Herolab. |

I've changed this to use the standard Windows "choose folder" dialog in the next version of Hero Lab, which should be released very soon.
Windows 7 plays some games with folders - some of the ones that you see, like some of the contents of the Users folder, work in a special way which means not all the items appear if you try to get the contents normally. The windows standard dialogs know how to handle this special behaviour, so this should all be easier in the next version of Hero Lab. |
