Around the time AB2 was realeased, Rob mentioned adding a feature to
AB to allow you to inventory your minis as part of the program. I haven't heard anything about this recently, is there any chance of seeing this soon, or has the project been postponed? Thanks! Mike with Many Minis |

In regards to getting an inventory of minis, how difficult would it be to make a 'race' that allowed you to take any unit from any army in any size Mr. Skrillover? Then
people could just choose the 'inventory' race and be able to catalog all their mini's in a huge roster. Possibly, but wouldn't it be easier to manage a bunch of smaller files? Well, if you want an inventory of everything, then i guess it would be nice to be able to make a "unit" of bloodletters that is 36 strong. Instead of 3 units of 10 and 1 of 6. > >Also, it doesn't help the fact that a Chaos Space Marine with a Bolter >could be a Veteran, Havoc, normal marine, ... Well, as points wouldn't be a factor, it could just be a way of having "Chaos Marine" as a unit. Then you can assign all the various weapons so you would get something like: --------------------- Chaos Marine | 121 | (stats of basic chaos marine) | Bolter -------------------- Chaos Marine | 33 | (stats of basic chaos marine ) | Bolt Pistol and Close Combat Weapon -------------------- Chaos Marine | 2 | (stats of basic chaos marine ) | Missile launcher, Fully painted -------------------- etc etc etc Just some thoughts. I've been up to my eyeballs since V2 came out last Summer, so I've only
been able to work on ideas for how to solve this - no actual code has been written yet. Next month, I'll finally have someone coming onboard to run the sales & marketing end of things, which will free up a good chunk of my time. At that point, work will begin on the "next big thing". Don't ask me what it is yet, since I honestly am not certain. I do know that the inventory functionality is one of the leading candidates, though. :-) Thanks, Rob At 06:16 PM 4/12/01 +0000, you wrote: >Around the time AB2 was realeased, Rob mentioned adding a feature to >AB to allow you to inventory your minis as part of the program. That's probably the biggest hurdle associated with an inventory tool.
Coming up with a clean solution for that is a major criterion for creating a successful product. Hope that makes sense...... Well, what I was hoping they could do (and this may be totaly impractical given the complexity of data files already and the possible combinations of minis with units) would be somthing that would be inegral with the data file for each game and army. In my dream <g> the files and inventory would work together such that as you create an army list, it could alert you if your list included more of any particular troop, vehicle, etc. than you have figures to match. Like I said, this would probably be pretty hard to pull off, but it sure would be sweet... ;-) Mike with many minis. |

And don't forget that for historical games, the problem exponentiates.
For those Germanic warbands, I may have figures from three or four different manufacturers, and two or three figure codes each. I've been thinking about this problem from the ancient gamer point of view. What I'd like to see is a database with fields that look something like this: Manufacturer Code Description Region of origin (European, Germanic, Roman, etc.) Time Period Mounted or Foot Command? then either a bitmask that has fields for appropriate equipment or separate Boolean fields for each appropriate bit of equipment. A special field that allows notes. (Like "this is a Peter the Great figure") That SHOULD cover an historical gamer's needs. I reserve the right to amend that statement, though E At 02:40 AM 4/13/2001 -0700, Rob Bowes wrote: >That's probably the biggest hurdle associated with an inventory tool. >Coming up with a clean solution for that is a major criterion for creating >a successful product. > >Thanks, Rob > > >At 10:32 PM 4/12/01 +0100, you wrote: > >Also, it doesn't help the fact that a Chaos Space Marine with a Bolter > >could be a Veteran, Havoc, normal marine, ... > > >--------------------------------------------------------------------------- >Rob Bowes (rob@wolflair.com) (650) 726-9689 >Lone Wolf Development www.wolflair.com > > >To unsubscribe from this group, email > >armybuilder-unsubscribe@egroups.com > >Your use of Yahoo!
