Deity Categories

I would like to create new categories for deity listings when choosing a deity in a portfolio. I've searched the forums and gather that it cannot be done in the editor, so I assume it must be done directly in the XML files. Can anyone direct me to files that might help me with this? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

When I add the Community Pack there is a new deity category Iron God and all gods I have added are appearing under that category. How can I stop this from happening?

It seems to be an issue with COM_GMPack_AP_Bestiary - AP15 Iron Gods.user

You could move it out of your data directory for now.

Removing the file you suggested got rid of the Iron God listing, but then everything showed as Legendary Planet. However, I was able to find that file and remove it and things are back to normal. I still hope someone can help me with my first question. In any case, thanks again for your help.

First pulling files out of the community Pack is BAD thing to do. The Pack is designed to work with all the files shipped. If you do the above it means you also agree to deal with any issues that come up on your own.

Note the above is NOT a bug in the community Pack but an issue in how the BASE HL code works. If a deity has NO deity cat it will sort under the highest Deity Cat it finds. Just because it "displays" in that section does not mean it really is now part of that Deity Category. Its just a visual sort issue.

Deity Category is just a "tag" you create. You can create new ones easily on the Deity tab in the editor. In the editor click on "General->Editor". Then click on the "Deity Category" button. Click on the VERY first option "- New Tag -" and then click ok. Then a new window pops up and you can define your new Tag Values. Reload HL afterwards and your good.

I would recommend reading the Glossary of Terms for the Editor. Then check out FAQ#2 for all the places to learn about the editor including YouTube videos. Welcome to the wonderful world of using the HL editor which will be the most frustrating and rewarding thing you can do with Hero Lab.

I've already added the deity category tag in the editor. What I'm wanting is for the category to show up in the choose deity dropdown in the portfolio page with the proper deities under that category. If you can help me with this I would really appreciate it. Kudos to all your great work on the Community Pack and on the forums!

Oh your talking the UI display of the deity category. Sorry didn't get that at first.

Sense you have the Pack the easy way is to look how I did the Eberron one. Open the file COM_CampaignPack_Eberron - Deities.user. Then on the Deity tab look at the bottom most entry called "Eberron Deities". The important parts are to use those special {bmp npclass} characters around the name, in the Deity Category select your deity tag you already created. Set the Order Group by (may have to play with this to get everything to display correctly). Then on the RIGHT side make sure you check mark "Show Only?".

Now your new gods should display under this new section heading.

I have tried what you said and I am still not getting the deity category to show up. I've attached the .user file with the category and one skeleton version of a god. The god (Pelor) shows up, but the category (Greyhawk) does not. Pelor shows up in the generic area before any categories are listed. The file is very short, and if you (or anyone else reading this) could look at it and offer any other advice I would greatly appreciate it.

Based on what I see specifically in the file you posted. The issue would be the Deity Category is source marked to "Greyhawk" but the God Pelor is not. Meaning if you didn't go into the 'Configure Your Hero' window and turn on "Greyhawk" you will only see Pelor.

Once I turn on Greyhawk this is what I see:
