It would be convenient to have the option to show permanently visible labels on pins. So it would be easier to find places on maps without the need to hover the pin. In addition to that the possibility to show that labels to players.

Maybe just the prefix? I don't want to have a lot of text obscuring the map if I use this proposed feature.

Just the prefix could be not enough information. For example the Barovia map in Curse of Strahd has labels with just one letter for all the locations. While dming the module I found me wishing for full labels because I had to look up the location names too often. (I ended up making my own map with all the names, but revealing pins and names would be a great feature.)

No. I have maps with dozens of pins. Adding labels would render what is already a busy map unusable. Tooltips is by far the best way for this to work.

Would be no problem if you can choose which pins show the labels and which don't. That way I could show for example all city names and leave places of interest as they are.
