Hi guys
I've started running into a number of problems using ABCreate, and I'm wondering if anyone can explain what's going on. 1. Text in the comments and notes fields that can't fit on a single line no longer wraps onto a new line, instead it just keeps on ploughing off the edge of the field where I can't see it or get at it. Similarly for the "valid syntax" field when you go to create/edit an attribute, the text is on one line only and disappears off the side. Any ideas why this is happening? 2. I'm occasionally getting an error message when I'm testing my files in Army Builder: "0.0pts allocated to units which don't belong to valid composition groups." I think I've identified the unit causing the fault, but I can't see why it's breaking it when others don't. 3. Still testing files, when I make the roster larger than the maximum allowed size, the validation message either says that the maximum size is 0, or that it's 10042331149858132000000000000000000. And it doesn't just affect the files I'm working on, even the Tutorial files do the same thing occasionally, but files I created months ago work perfectly. I've tried reinstalling everything from the CD, I even put it on a different computer to see if it was just something with my machine, but it didn't help. What have I done that has broken things so badly? Thanks Richard ------------------------ Yahoo! Here's something even weirder: I've discovered that the problem goes away as long as there's at least one unit in the roster with either of the umin or umax attributes... Thanks for your help. The problems came in progressively. I'd just started work on the files again after upgrading, when I noticed the roster size problem. Further playing around trying to work out what was causing that revealed the composition group problem. Then, a couple of days later, all the text fields in the Creator went crazy. They were definitely working okay for a while after the upgrade. > > > >2. That one was definitely related to the nine-character type. The roster size problem remains even after trimming the types. > > > >3. Certainly not all files are affected, for example I've had a look at a few of the most recent updates off the web, and they all seem to work perfectly. ABCreator requires a DLL to be loaded to operate; if a different version of that DLL is loaded before ABCreator runs, then you may get weird results. Try running ABCreator immediatley after starting Windows; do the problems occur then? (This is by no means a 100% test, as the DLL may be loaded by something on startup, but it might work.) > > > > >2. Then that would seem to point to something in your data files as being the cause of the problem. You could try something I did recently to diagnose a problem in some other files - start a new army of a race with which problems occur. Then use 'skip' on the race attributes for that race, one by one. If the problem stops occurring, there's some sort of weird problem with one of the attributes you commented out.
