To 4 or not to 4

Like other people I'm rather looking forward to 4e, if only because the promised reduction in preparation time and more manageable high level play.

I'd love to use HeroLab in that context.

With the recent announcement about the new OGL and the number of misunderstandings in the different forums, I have a question for you:

Did you request the new OGL? This is the first step prospective Phase 1 companies have to take. I know, participating in Phase one demands you to pay $5,000 beforehand, but you can decline participation after studying the OGL.

If you can have a look at the new OGL by end of January, you know in which way you'll be legally able to support 4e with HeroLab. So even if you decide not to pay the money and move to 4e in Phase 2 (2009), it still allows for an informed decision and enables you to enjoy a longer development time.

We emailed wizards asking for more information on the OGL the day the
news about it came out. Rest assured, we're anxiously waiting to look at
the OGL to see if it's compatible with what we'd like to do.


As soon as we get solid details on what the SRD/OGL covers (and what it
doesn't), we can decide on our plans for 4th edition. Until then, we're
interested but we need more details.

Good to know that you understood the message. :lol: It's interesting that not all publishers seem to have understood it...

I'm pretty sure that the next real campaign I'll be starting will use 4e. I'm also sure that WotC's Character Creator won't cut it and that within a year from now, a software solution is a 'must'.

I'm looking forward towards what you'll have to offer - as long as it's possible to design your own output sheets. 8)
