The next Chaos codex will undoubtedly be the most comprehensive update we've seen in years changing virtually every facet of the army list.

I'm not starting this thread to debate whether this is a good or bad thing, however I would like to suggest the following.

When the new 'dex hits this fall please update the AB40k data file so that the old (the one we currently use) Chaos Codex is selectable as an army type. This is for the benefit of people who would still like to use the old codex in friendly games. The old codex could show up as "Third Edition Chaos Codex" or something and display a pop-up warning that it's not tournament legal or something (or maybe you could set it so that the roster will not validate no matter what when using the old list.)

Just putting it out there...

The line we take with the 40k files is only to use anything that is currently 'official' and as up to date as we can. With a new dex made available then the old one will be defunct.

Saying that, once the new dex is incorporated then we may put a seperate download on the site which will hold the file as you suggested - the one drawback of this is you will have to import it each time after a full file release
