So looking for a consensus from fellow content authors. When creating specific Racial Properties that essentially are a Hindrance, do you just create a stand-alone Racial Property or actually bootstrap the Hindrance in as well.

An example would be Outsider, many races seem to have a version of this. So do you?

Quote:
1. Racial Property - Outsider (with an Eval script for Charisma/Persuasion modifiers).

or

2. Racial Property - Outsider, bootstrap appropriate level Hindrance Outsider
Just a bit curious, that is all. Looking over my own files I seem to have done a bit of both. Not even consistent in my own work

For me, if there's an Hindrance (or an Edge) already then I will bootstrap it. At least I've tried to be consistent with it, but like you I can't say I always have been.

Working on -
  • (SWADE) WIP Savage Rifts
  • Savage Rifts (Deluxe): Update link in This post
  • Star Trek Adventures: Update link in This post

It's been so very long since I've even done a data file (despite having done a bunch of them) that I really don't remember what I did. I THINK if there was an available hindrance I'd probably bootstrap that if I could, otherwise I'd build it out standalone. In practice I wouldn't be surprise if I did more of them standalone, though, because I think bootstrapping things was sometimes harder to do in older versions of the ruleset we had. I really can't remember for sure, though.

Data files authored (please let me know if you see any issues with any of these if you have/use them):
Official (In the downloader)
50 Fathoms, Deadlands: Hell On Earth, Deadlands: Noir, East Texas University, Necessary Evil (requires Super Powers Companion), Pirates of the Spanish Main, Space 1889 (original file by Erich), Tour of Darkness, Weird War II, Weird Wars: Rome
Coming Eventually
Evernight (LWD has completed their review but I have some fixes to make first... although Pinnacle mentioned this might get an overhaul to SWADE so I may just wait for that first. If you just HAVE to have this now, though, just PM me)

For me, it depends on if there are any special properties to this version of the Hindrance. Outsider is a good example. Some versions have specific text that it is good to include. It also depends on if the Hindrance has a bunch of background code I would have to duplicate if I didn't bootstrap. But I try to bootstrap whenever I can, just so there aren't multiple versions I have to keep track of.
