I have a question about the combat.
I have a hero who has walked into a gang den and angered everyone in it. They've all drawn guns and are about to fire. He has toughness 15 and impervious 4 and a dodge of 0. So chances are everyone who shoots at him are going to hit him. Now when they hit, he rolls a d20 and adds 15 for his toughness right? So on the gang member character sheet I gave them blast and it says the DC is 25. That means he would have to roll a 5 or less in order to actually take any damage right? How does impervious play into it? |

Correct, he rolls a d20 and adds 15 for his toughness to see how the attack affects him. He would have to roll at least a 10 to shrug the attack off completely.
The damage table in the back of the book compares the result of the Toughness save against the level of the attack. Checking a Toughness bonus of +5 against a rank 10 attack, here's the possible results: 25+: The character would shrug it off completely. No damage is taken. 20-24: He takes a cumulative penalty going forward on Toughness checks. 15-19: The character is dazed and would also take the cumulative -1 Toughness penalty. 10-14: The character is staggered and takes the -1 penalty. 1-9: The character becomes incapacitated. The latter two results aren't possible before the character starts taking damage, but once those -1 penalties start piling up, it gets harder to stay conscious. Impervious means that the character doesn't even have to roll to save against attacks of a rank less than his impervious. So with Impervious 4, you're immune to any attack with a damage bonus of 4 or less. If someone shot the character with a light pistol (rank 3) he wouldn't have to save. He might not even notice! Incidentally, next time you have a rules question, try asking it over on the official Mutants & Masterminds boards. . There's a whole community there willing to help you out. These boards are more for problems with Hero Lab. |
