For a starter. I'm total newbie for making AB datafiles. Have been reading documents but don't have time to read and study it thoroughly(could make time but since I'm not making datafiles all that much not worth spending limited time) but right now I'm trying to make datafile for warmaster game(I'm using existant fileset as base) for new high elves(our group production, we feel rulebook list is way broken, as side note I'm the HE player so isn't my whining on something I can't beat, so we'll fix it ourselves). Problem. I have unit's defined in way it should be made(looking at original high elf datafile) but unit doesn't appear on listing. So far I have defined stats, ID, abbrev, unit type, composition group, unit category, cost, size info and external attributes + of course race and stuff there is. Something I have missed? __________________________________________________ ______________________ __________________________________________________ ______________________ Message: 2 Date: Mon, 16 Dec 2002 14:06:48 -0000 From: "Day, Simon" <simon.day@capitafhe.co.uk> Subject: RE: datafile making question Hi, First thing to check - The first two characters of your unit code must be the same as the race code. If this is Ok, then unless you have defined the unit with a 'hide' condition or have set it within the "special character" group of the files, it should show up. Have you adjusted the original list, or added an extra data file to it ? I live in Delaware, Ohio. I have thought about signing up to be a volunteer but not for GMing anything. I seem to be hoplessly stuck in the 80-90's. I like older games, aka - stuff few people seem to play that does not involve lots and lots of cards.... CENTURION, SPACE HULK, OGRE Minis (which is re-released). I am still struggling with creating a AB file for OGRE and CENTURION. I haven't put much effort into latley and I got frustrated because I'm a "clueless old fart" when it comes to computers and creating anyhting beyond an email. I have read the manual but something about it escapes me. I can put a bicycle together out of the box but I'm a hands on builder - I need parts to put my hands on. Extra since original was locked(so figured one can't change it). __________________________________________________ ______________________ __________________________________________________ ______________________ Message: 5 Date: Tue, 17 Dec 2002 11:41:31 -0000 From: "Day, Simon" <simon.day@capitafhe.co.uk> Subject: RE: datafile making question In the original file, go to the 'Race' tab. The high elves will have a race prefix (it's 2nd field down I think) and chances are it will be set to 'HE' or some other obvious code for High Elves. In your own extension file on your new unit, the unit code / unit reference which is on the top line, second field from the left should also start with this two character code. Remember ALL the codes in Armybuilder are context specific, so 'HE' is not the same as 'he' e.g. if the "High Elves" race prefix is 'he'. A unit created called 'spearmen, with a code of 'hespear' will show up. A unit created called 'spearmen' with a code of 'HESPEAR' will not show up. A unit created called 'spearmen' with a code of 'elfspear' will not show up. Hope this helps.
