I filed a bug report for this. Just wondering if anyone here has any insight.
I'm trying to install on a second computer, and I get the error indicated in the title after installation, while its trying to load. "MAC Address retrieval failure". If I close and restart I get "Your database file was never created properly and is corrupt. Please restart Realm Works to recreate it." Restarting doesn't help. I've tried uninstalling, rebooting, reinstalling, running as admin. |

What network adapters does that computer have?
Right-click Computer and pick Properties or press Windows-Pause, open the Device Manager, look under Network Adapters and any unknown devices. You could also try opening a Command Prompt and running "ipconfig /all". ("Physical Address" is the MAC Address.) Technical Stuff: the MAC Address is the internal address of a network adapter. Among other things, programs often use it as part of their way to identify a specific computer. Last edited by Parody; April 8th, 2014 at 06:50 PM. Reason: More info you didn't want. :) |

Realm Works uses WMI (Windows Management Instrumentation) to retrieve the MAC address along with a few other bits that are used for initialization. If the WMI Windows service is not running, you can get an error like this. Also, if your WMI configuration database gets corrupted, it can cause problems outside of Realm Works control.
For this particular case, it was that the WMI service was disabled. |

I'm having Tech Support flashbacks. "Sir, why did you delete FDISK?" ;)
Glad you've got it up and running now! Last edited by Parody; April 8th, 2014 at 10:38 PM. |

Ducks out the back and goes to the Marshall's office...
"Marshall Rob, thur's trouble brewin' at the Saloon!" Sleet was enjoying a tasty beverage at his local tavern, when a Tarrasque showed up in the local area. He managed to valiantly get on it's back and ride it. How he did it is a mystery to this day... RW: Engine Heart, I Love The Corps! Home Brew: Star Gate: Avalon, Monda Minutia.
