Being able to select some text in a topic and make it an alias, either through a keyboard shortcut or a context menu choice, would be nice.

Would this save that much time over just hitting ctrl+C to copy and then ctrl+shift+A to open the Names/Aliases dialog box?

It would save time if it skips the Names/Aliases dialog box altogether and just applies default settings for case sensitivity, navigation visibility, auto-linking, and precedence. Since I tend to tinker with these settings, this requested functionality would not be very helpful to me, but I could see how it would be a nice productivity gain for others who are less persnickety with the Names attributes.

Also, it would be helpful to anyone who needs to apply a number of alternate names from the text. Generating the names by a hotkey or context menu would still save over opening the dialog, sometimes repeatedly. After generating the names, a single visit to the dialog would allow the fine-tuning MNBlockhead mentioned.

This is almost certainly of more use to people working with Mechanics articles (where it may be desirable for several terms in the article to be linked to it).

At this time, aliases/alternate names appear below the true name when viewing an entry.

Could aliases be added as a form field? They should default to normal link and no display with a tool menu to click to access advanced actions for the entry? This would allow aliases to be quickly entered as a standard editing action without impact on workflow.

To allow for multiple aliases, require a ";" separator.

For aliases that are different from the default, make them a different color when displaying.
